We first met Apexer at 2013’s POW! WOW! Hawaii as the Bay-area artist dropped his first ever print the near-instant sell out RUN #00705 Right Spiral.  A true craftsman, Apexer can thrive in any conditions, whether he’s painting late night at underground mall in Taiwan or on the summer festival circuit where he was painting most recently Outsidelands and will be adding some color to the upcoming Life Is Beautiful festival. One of San Francisco’s best breaks down his latest release “Turk Street which drops August 28th at 12pm EST. 1x: Tell us a little bit about this piece, anything immediate you would like us to highlight about this painting?
Apexer: In this painting I wanted to have two drastic different fill in styles. So the top half is a classic fill of mine and in the bottom half I play with the idea of different color chrome effects. It was a fun piece to paint in the heart of San Francisco.

1x: Was this piece part of a recent theme or series ?
Apexer: When I paint on the street I like to have fun. I’m always trying new ideas out that turn into more ideas.

1x: When was this piece created and what materials were used to create this piece?
Apexer: This print is based on a part of a larger mural that I painted in 2010 with Neon and Chez. The original wall all spray paint and latex.

1x: How long did this piece take?
Apexer: This piece took me about a week on and off. The background and the actual piece itself. This wall in person is really big.

1x: What is unique about this piece compared with your other work?
Apexer: It’s all part of my artistic vocabulary. This particular one says apex and I was painting in the super burner style. Really trying to push the ideas of color and style.

1x: Why should people buy this print?
Apexer: Because they like the art.

1x: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.
Apexer: Fun.

1x: When did you first start making art?
Apexer: 1985.

1x: What was your first piece?
Apexer: Shit I don’t remember the first one. I remember the first good one.

1x: What artists inspire you now?
Apexer: All the classics from every field. Anybody that’s pushing the boundaries.

1x: Do you listen to music while you work? If so what?
Apexer: I listen to all music that is heavy with trap on heavy rotation.

1x: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why?
Apexer: Flying Lotus because I really like his music. I trip out on it and if we collaborated I know that would be trippy

1x: If you could collaborate with any deceased artists who would it be and why?
Apexer: Too many to mention.

1x: What was the first piece of art that you bought? Do you still have it?  The last?
Apexer: I don’t remember the past like that. I’m more of a futurist. But if I buy art it’s because I like it and I keep it. So what ever it was I still have it. Ha. The last was a piece from Michael Page.

1x: Any big shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Apexer: I’ll be painting at Life Is Beautiful festival in Las Vegas.
