1x: Tell us a little bit about this piece, anything immediate you would like us to highlight about this painting?
Jason Woodside: This piece was the first, based on deepening the draw from my normal, flatter work. I was trying to focus more on objects and shapes as this was more of a tester for a much bigger piece.

1x: Was this piece part of a recent theme, series or show that you had? If so how did it fit into that given grouping?
Jason Woodside: The original piece was just in a solo show I did in Auckland, New Zealand called SWAY. This was actually 1 of 2 that kind of played off each other. The original was actually a sketch mock up for a large scale wall mural I ended up doing at the Richmond Mural Project this year.

1x: How has 2016 been going so far for you? Bring us up to speed on what you’ve been up to this year.
Jason Woodside: This year started late for me! Not complaining as last year was a mental one. The year so far has been more about fine tuning my work. Loads of good studio time.

1x: What have been some of the strides you feel you’ve made in your work recently?
Jason Woodside: I think I’ve been more conscious of light and color tones. Contrasts have always been a thing for me so it feels nice to venture out.

1x: Any techniques new or old that you’ve been incorporating as of late?
Jason Woodside: No not really. I tend to make my own tools when creating my work. Some new tools, same techniques, just exploring different ways to apply them.

1x: Are there any new artists, visually, sonically or otherwise that have been inspiring you lately?
Jason Woodside: Not so much. There’s always so much new and amazing stuff out there, it’s overwhelming sometimes. I think subconsciously I try to tune it out a bit, especially during those months when I’m making small tweaks to my own process.

1x: What’s your schedule like the rest of the year? any events, shows etc. that you want to share?
Jason Woodside: Yes, good things happening. I’ve just made a book based on my studio works. It’s 40 page, hard back book set to launch at Colette in Paris in September. Then in November I have a solo show at Stolen Space in London that I’m looking forward to.
