We welcome back Dutch artist Does as the prolific graffiti writer looks back on his first 20 years under the Does moniker. To celebrate he has released a comprehensive look back with First 20 Years a limited edition self-printed book created by Does in The Netherlands. With this latest collection here on 1xRUN The Rhythm Of Sketching, Does separates his name letter by letter with two new hand-embellished editions taking a a razor sharp look into his signature style. 1xRUN: Tell us a little bit about these pieces, anything immediate you would like us to highlight about this imagery?
Does: I created four separate letters that together form DOES. In light of my first 20 years, I wanted to celebrate my favorite letters, each on their own.
1x: When were these pieces created and what materials were used?
Does: I used spray paint, acrylics, markers and watercolor on 190 grams watercolor paper. The O and the S were created end of August this year. I finished the D and the E last week for this release.
1x: How long did each of these image take to create from start to finish?
Does: Approximately three days for each letter.
1x: What is unique about these pieces compared with your other work?
Does:It is the first time that I used water color on paper and it’s the first time I drew separate letters on paper.

Does: Does.
1x: We also have your latest book here as well, tell us a bit about what fans can expect from this book.
Does: To celebrate a 20 year evolution of dedication to style, I have just released a very personal story. This book is filled to the gills with unreleased sketches, stories and drawings and created a one of a kind exclusive book based my original blackbooks. It starts way back showing my earliest sketches from 1997 and goes on to show my most recent, often torn, sketches which are now the basis for murals and canvasses. Throughout the book you’ll find handwritten notes from myself and my dad, giving insight into my artistic development and making this book very personal.
Does: Besides several assignments and exhibitions abroad, the main focus this year was the release of my new book ‘First 20 Years’ and new docu ‘Rhythm of Sketching.’
1x: What are some of the ways you have been trying to push yourself with your work over the last year?
Does: This year I’ve started using cement in my murals, to give them more depth.
Does: A big canvas by my brother Joan van Barneveld. He is an artist and musician.
1x: Do you have any big shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Does: 2018 is promising to become a very busy and interesting year.
