Returning for her second RUN, we welcome back New York City-based artist, Dee Dee who joins us with her latest hand-painted editions Every Breaking Wave. With each piece uniquely hand-painted and screen printed by Dee Dee out in New York, each print is vibrant and rich with hand done elements. Read on for a quick look behind Dee Dee’s latest and more. . .
1xRUN: Tell us a little bit about this piece, anything immediate you would like us to highlight about this image?
Dee Dee: I don’t generally like to discuss my artwork in that way much or the intentions behind it. I prefer people have their own experience with it. I have heard (and overheard) so many people describing what my work means to them. Some descriptions have been really quite fantastic…and while maybe not what I intended, no less valid.
1x: Was this image part of a recent theme, series or show that you had? If so how did it fit into that given grouping?
Dee Dee: It was a part of the work I put into the streets of NYC in 2017. It fit pretty great on most of the walls I found for it.
1x: What materials were used to create this original piece?
Dee Dee: Paper, silkscreen ink, spray paint, paint marker, Coca Cola, pizza.
1x: How long did this image take to create from start to finish?
Dee Dee: They are like having dreams. Time with them doesn’t work in nearly the same way.
1x: Why should people buy this one of these prints?
Dee Dee: Why should anyone buy art? If it speaks to you, makes you feel good, well then off you go.
1x: Describe this image in one gut reaction word.
Dee Dee: Strength.

1x: What have you been up to over the last few months? Bring us up to speed on how things have been going recently for you…
Dee Dee: Things are going quite well. I spent time at the Bowie exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. I rewatched Twin Peaks, I am currently enthralled with Westworld. I have been also having quite a lot of fun preparing the art everyone will be seeing over the course of the summer. I am quite excited to show it. My apologies to my neighbors for the loud music that fueled it.
1x: Any recent shows or exhibitions that you had?
Dee Dee: I put some art up in the street in NYC a few nights ago. Lots of people have walked by it. I will probably do it again shortly.
1x: What are some of the ways you have been trying to push yourself with your work over the last year?
Dee Dee: All of my work to me is music. Each piece is a song. I am always trying to make my work make the viewer feel how a song would make them feel. Music has always been my greatest friend and I am always pushing to make my work translate in a similar fashion.
1x: What are some strides you feel you’ve made in your work recently?
Dee Dee: I am getting less glue all over myself when I put work up.
1x: What was the last piece of art that you bought?
Dee Dee: I haven’t bought anything recently. I suppose the last piece of art I received was a trade I did with my amazing assistant, Momo. It is called “Rainbow Jungle” and hangs in my home. Momo has the most fabulous imagination of anyone I have ever known. One of my most favorite artists.
1x: Do you have any big shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Dee Dee: Keep your eye on September…
