Adam Dare Debuts With FTW (Fight To WIN)

1xRun Thru Interview
Fight To Win by Adam Dare

1xRUN: Tell us a little bit about the original pieces these multiples are based off of, are they still for sale? What materials did you use?
Adam Dare:   For these pieces I used oil based spray paint and my negative stencil technique. I also work in mixed mediums, spray paint, oil paint, acrylics, paint markers, Krinks, stencils, paper, found objects, and just about anything that sparks my imagination and inspires me.  The same technique was used on the original painting as the 1xRUN series. The difference is that the original painting’s dimensions were much larger – 40″ x 30″.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea & execution came about?
Adam Dare:  These pieces were inspired by recent discussion of Constitutional amendments.  I wanted to explore this message in the medium I’ve been currently exploring. I felt that this technique would be a good fit for the energy of the subject matter.

1xRun: How long did these pieces take?
Adam Dare:   Approximately 20 hours.

1xRun: What is unique about these multiples?
Adam Dare:  Everything. No two are alike.

1xRun: Why should people buy this pieces?
Adam Dare:  The pieces capture the energy of the subject matter not only in the final aesthetic but in the creation process itself. Each one is unique.

1xRun: Describe these pieces in one gut reaction word.
Adam Dare:  BANG!

1xRun: When did you first start making art? What was your first piece?
Adam Dare:  I’ve been painting since childhood like every other kid in America. I’ve been doing street art and graffiti since the 80’s. I don’t remember my first piece.

1xRun: What artists inspired you early on? What artists inspire you now?
Adam Dare: Early on it was Lee “LEE” Quinones.  His full handball court murals in the Lower East Side in the early 80’s set my imagination on fire.  Doze Green is a current favorite. I’m also inspired by the enthusiasm of Annie Preece.

1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work? What is your environment like when you work?
Adam Dare:  My musical choices range from classical, to hip hop, to heavy metal. Currently listening to Kendrick Lamar on repeat.

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why? Any deceased artists ?
Adam Dare:    Because my work is so personal I tend not to think in collaborative aspirations, but rather let them happen naturally. But if Gerhard Richter asked to collaborate, I’d be down.  (For the latter) Da Vinci.

1xRun: What was the first piece of art that you bought? Do you still have it? The last?
Adam Dare:  I don’t buy art. I trade art.

1xRun: What else do you have in the works?
Adam Dare:  I have a group show at The White Rabbit Gallery in May. Currently preparing for a street art endeavor with upcoming spring thaw.

1xRun: Where else can people find you?
