Alvaro Tapia Hidalgo has studied Graphic Design at Universidad de Valparaiso, Chile and before moving on to the Cinema Studies School of Chile. He has worked for more than 10 years as a graphic designer and in audiovisual creation. Most recently, he has started to explore illustration by using mixed digital and traditional techniques. As an illustrator he has collaborated with Wired Magazine and in the most recent Dec. 2011 issue of Rolling Stone España.

This latest image Glam Polar Bear is a vectorial drawing on hand-made textures created with watercolor and ink with the composition in finished in Photoshop. Began on October 10, 2011 the work took about two days to finish according to Hidalgo.

“One of my lines of illustration work is the illustration of animals, usually angry animals. In this case, I wanted to add a graphic element that represented contemporary popular culture, by referring to the image of David Bowie on the cover of Aladdin Sane disc and displaying it like a hunting trophy.” Hidalgo said. ” It is a fresh and modern piece, and it has a great visual impact.”
