Fallen Angel by Copyright

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about these prints, were they created from an original piece of artwork?
Copyright: No, these were designed specifically to be screen printed. I printed them myself and enjoy that hands on process of creating an edition. Printing in this way is just another technique for me to apply paint to paper. There was a larger original of it on wood that sold.

1xRun: Were these prints part of a recent theme, series or show that you had?
Copyright: Angels are a reoccurring motif for me and most of my pictures draw from a bitter sweet theme. So the image of a fallen angel is a powerful symbolic way to portray this. I use symbols and iconography within my paintings to help build a story/narrative, usually small icons or tattoos.

1xRUN: What materials were used to create these prints with?
Copyright: These are a combination of a screen print with spray paint and acrylic paint on Fabriano watercolour paper.

1xRun: When were these prints created?
Copyright: This image I first made in 2011, I released 2 colour ways of it at the time that sold out. In 2013 I had my 10 year anniversary show where I was able to be nostalgic about my own work, after which I started to reprise old favorites in new ways. I made these and kept them back until the time was right. As my first print release in the USA and as an introduction to my work, it seamed like the perfect time to put them out.

1xRun: How long did these prints take to complete?
Copyright: Probably took me best part of a week off and on to make the 39 (13×3) prints. I don’t have a drying rack and there’s a few different processes to do by hand. So I paint a few, wait for them to dry, paint a few more, then screen a few etc etc. It’s slow going in the limited space I have, but I think it gives a more hand made quality feel.

1xRun: What do you feel is unique about these prints?
Copyright: They are hand made, by me.

1xRun: As we start a new year, tells us a bit about some of your favorite moments from 2014.
Copyright: At the start of 2014, I had a London solo show which opened in Soho on Valentines Day. It featured a lot of girls with roses and I painted roses all over the front of the gallery. The rose is probably my most prevalent motif, so doing that for Valentines Day was really appropriate and poignant. Then I ended the year by showing for the first time at Scope Miami, followed by  displaying one of my paintings in the Houses of Parliament in London, which was auctioned off to raise money for charity.

1xRun: What are your plans for 2015? Any big shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Copyright: I always take January as my month of the year to experiment with new techniques and ideas, so im holding off making solid plans until I have a new direction for the year. But so far I’m doing a few group shows, one in Hamburg next month, then showing in Chicago with Vertical Gallery. I’m hoping to get out to Miami for Scope this year.
