Copyright Returns With Forever, For Ever

Copyright has been daubing the streets of the UK with his trademark pink roses for years. Fusing street art, graffiti and more traditional styles, he uses a mixture of classic painting techniques and spray can art. He creates print styles with stencils, depth with spray paint, and texture with a paintbrush.

1x: When were these prints created?
Copyright: This year in this format, but I think I originally drew her in 2014 for a canvas, I sometimes like to revisit my girls into new formats. The tattoo on her arm wasn’t on the original, but references a sailor Jerry tattoo and the name of a solo show I had in London in 2014, ‘One Red Rose Forever’.

1x: Tell us a little bit about your process and how the idea and execution came about for these prints?
Copyright: These were put together with a combination of hand painter layers, basic stenciled layers and silk screened layers, with the hope that it creates a more textural dynamic piece than a straight silkscreen, also it means that each one has its own charms as they all come out with slight differences.

1x: How long did these prints take to complete?
Copyright: Because of the multi-layering and time needed for drying between different techniques, I was only able to get a few of these done a day, so probably took a little over a week to get them all done.

1x: Describe these prints in one gut reaction word.
Copyright: Sweetness.

1x: How has 2016 been for you? Bring us up to speed on what you’ve been up to.
Copyright: 2016 has been crazy. I started the year with my first ever USA solo show at Vertical Gallery in Chicago, and it has been a bit of a blur since then, moving from one project to the next. I’ve put out some great prints, done a couple of outdoor art fairs, a very limited run of skate decks, some new commissions, walls outside and good times with friends. I don’t really know where the year has gone.
