Dan May Takes Time In Patient Season

1xRUN: Tell us a little bit about this original piece, what materials were used? When was it drawn & created? Is the original still for sale?
Dan May:
It was painted with acrylics on a cradled wood panel. It was completed in 2013. The original has been sold.
1xRun: Anything immediate you would like us to highlight?
Dan May:  There are many little details to discover throughout this painting that you may not notice at first glance.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Dan May:   I started this painting during the winter solstice and was thinking of many things while creating it. My art is generally layered with emotion, texture, and detail. A large part of my process involves absorbing what I am experiencing at any one given moment in time. My paintings are a way of reflecting on these moments and sharing them with others.
We all have emotions; it’s the common thread that connects us all, no matter how different we may seem. The creatures in my paintings are not your typical beasts, they are gentle creatures that often come from a place of deep pain and seem to have “experienced” life… there is, however, always a glimmer of hope. I was anticipating the coming year and thinking about all that the future holds… how time can fly by and how we are all affected by not only our relationships with one another, but by our relationship with our planet and the creatures that inhibit it.
1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Dan May:
Not sure exactly as I usually have several things going at any given moment… but maybe a week or two?

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Dan May:  It is one of the larger pieces that I have created and it brings many elements of my work together.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Dan May:   Hopefully it strikes an emotional cord and inspires many stories within each viewer

1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Dan May:  Emotional.

1xRun: What else have you been up to lately? What do you have in the works for 2013?
Dan May:   2013 is already shaping up to be an exciting year. Things are rapidly developing, and we could not be more excited for all thats ahead. My wife and I have had a plan to write/illustrate a children’s book for a while, and we are taking the first steps now. We actually wrote one together when we first started dating 10 years ago; we’ve learned a great deal along the way, so while the story and ideas are new, the energy that it took to create something of this nature remains the same. This book will be something that both children and adults will be able to appreciate, and it will showcase my best work to date.

1xRun: Where else can people find you?
