The Day Dream by Glenn Barr
1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, what materials did you use on the original?
Glenn Barr: This piece was painted over the course of a week using acrylic on wood. It was for the group show CRUCIFIXION at the Corey Helford Gallery back in December of 2012. This was a chance to do yet another Christ related piece. I had done a few Jesus themed pieces in the past placing him different situations … perhaps considered irreverent but it really depends on how you look at it. So they’ve been met with, and not surprisingly, mixed reviews. But in the end they had become wildly iconic and popular in my career.
1xRun: Anything immediate you would like us to highlight?
Glenn Barr: I believe I painted it on an old cupboard door, perhaps from a barn or garage. I like painting on found things. They have lots of character and are ”imperfect”. Which is perfect for what I like to achieve in a painting, unforeseen textures and blemishes, cracks and divots…they all add to the mood of the piece and give it lots of personality.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Glenn Barr: The idea came directly from the title of the show. So I considered Christ’s predicament and what he might have wanted to do, or what he was thinking about the day before he would go down in infamy. If it was all spelled out to him, predestined to die… what the hell would you do… ? A moment of reminiscing, a moment of melancholy … a bit of a last hoorah ? A Day Dream?
1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Glenn Barr: About a week.
1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Glenn Barr: Well…the angel on the left, sitting at the bar, I’ve used that figure twice before. She was in a rock poster and a smaller painting called “Waiting or the Bus.”
1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.
Glenn Barr: … Jeezus.
1xRun: This is our 600th RUN and our 3 year anniversary print! You’ve been here since the beginning (and before even) how have you seen the site evolve over the three years?
Glenn Barr: I was lucky enough to be involved at the very beginning and have seen the site grow in leaps and bounds. They keep procuring better and more affluent artists all the time. It’s very exciting. Those guys are always trying to change it up and are constantly thinking of new projects and reaching out to new artists. A great crew of people to work with. Very professional.

In celebration of the 600th run of 1xRUN, for the first time, I’m going to offer up two of the studies from the painting. I looking at the sketches you can see how the painting had changed and figures were rearranged to better fit the composition.
1xRun: You’re constantly staying busy, what have you been up to over the past 2-3 months?
Glenn Barr: All summer I’ve been in group shows with the exception of a solo show in Albuquerque at the STRANGER FACTORY. I’ve been working of a toy design with Circus Posterus called the LUCKY DEVIL. Plus I’ve been swamped with commissions and a pending mural project…
