1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece is the original still for sale?
Glenn Barr: This is one of the few times I’ve given a figure extra arms. They come in handy when working machinery and flying contraptions. The original sold at my 2013 Spring solo exhibition at the Inner State gallery. The Detroit grand opening of the gallery last May was met with great success. It’s a beautiful space.
1xRun: Was this piece part of a recent theme, series or show that you had?
Glenn Barr: The show was titled ROOMS where I was able to develop a cross section of the work I do. Part of the show consisted of images illuminating persons and places around the city ( based on fact and fiction ). The other half of the show I wanted to take people outside the city and into the realm of the fantastic and the “otherworldly” settings that patrons know me for: the ROOMS of my brain.
1xRun: When was this piece drawn and created and with what materials?
Glenn Barr: This piece was painted in 2013 using acrylic on board. I pulled the idea from a drawing in my sketchbook. I remember it came together fairly fluidly, kind of a stream of consciousness product, as I tend to work that way.
1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Glenn Barr: I think I put 20 to 30 hrs into its creation from concept to finish. Building the canvas, preparing the board, getting the drawing onto the canvas, etc.
1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Glenn Barr: I’ve done similar pieces but this is the first where the figure is standing, and as I mentioned, she has 4 arms. The choppy waters are a new technique I’ve been pursuing lately. I love painting water. I don’t know why really. Maybe because it’s so hard to do and that I love a challenge.
1xRun: Describe this print in one gut reaction word.
Glenn Barr: Prehistory Goddess. 
1xRun: You’re going to be joining us out for Pow Wow 2014, what are your expectations of the event? Anyone personally you’re excited to see work out there?
Glenn Barr: Wow, there are many artists I look forward to meeting. They seem to be the cream of the crop. I’m not really sure what to expect as I’ve never done anything like this before.
1xRun: Anyone you’d like to collaborate with if the opportunity presented itself?
Glenn Barr: My good friend Tristan Eaton will be there…perhaps he’ll let me help out on his wall a bit.
1xRun: Have you painted large scale murals like what will be happening at Pow Wow or will this be a first?
Glenn Barr: I’ve painted large canvases and I’ve done interior murals. I love a challenge and I don’t foresee any problems. I usually attack a project head on and don’t look back. Jumping in and figuring things along the way is the way I work best.
1xRun: Any teasers of what you’re planning on doing out there for your mural piece?
Glenn Barr: I probably will be taking a lot of my design elements from my paintings, throw them together and create a surreal composition. It’s going to be all about design. I think graffiti and mural painting is ALL about design anyway…It’s going to be fun!
1xRun: Aside from that, what else have you been up to since our last release The Day Dream?
Glenn Barr: Mostly I’ve been working on commissions. It’s been keeping me very busy.
1xRun: Along with Pow Wow 2014, how is your schedule shaping up for 2014?
Glenn Barr: I will have a solo show at solo show at Roq La Rue in Seattle this upcoming September and I’ll have a two-person show with Charlie Immer at the Cotton Candy Machine, Brooklyn, New York in December.
