1x: Tell us a little bit about this piece, anything immediate you would like us to highlight?
Hauser: I wanted to do something with a Hawaiian phrase for Pow Wow Hawaii, the phrase ‘A hui hou’ (pronounced A howee ho) literally means ‘untill we meet again’.
1x: Was this piece part of a recent theme, series or show that you had? If so how did it fit into that given grouping?
Hauser: I designed this piece just for Pow Wow Hawaii, although it does include wave forms which are a recurring theme in my work.
1x: What materials were used to create this piece?
Hauser: My computer, graphics tablet and a marker/sketchbook. Nothing fancy!
1x: When was the piece originally created?
Hauser: I did this about 3 weeks ago over the course of a day.
1x: Tell us a little bit about your process and how the idea and execution came about?
Hauser: I start with a loose sketch of the entire piece to see how the letters will fit above and below, then hand draw pattern elements which I bring into adobe illustrator and make repeats. I use a graphics tablet with illustrator and draw a lot of stuff straight into the software. It’s a pretty quick process that I used a lot in my days designing screens for t-shirts.
1x: What do you feel is unique about this piece compared to your other work?
Hauser: It’s the first time I’ve done anything written in Hawaiian.
1x: Describe this piece with one gut reaction word.
Hauser: Colorful.

1x: What are your expectation this year for POW!WOW! Hawaii?
Hauser: I’m expecting the time of my life.
1x: Without giving away too much, what are your plans for your mural out in Honolulu?
Hauser: My print will be the same as my mural pretty much!
1x: Any of the participating artists you are excited to see painting?
Hauser: There are so many artists painting at pow wow that i love and respect! Really looking forward to seeing what Bicicleta Sem Freio and Pant one bring to the table.
1x: What’s your schedule like after POW!WOW! 2016? Any big shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Hauser: Pow Wow is definitely the highlight of my year so far! I work with Tristan Eaton on most of his big mural projects so that keeps me crazy busy. Hopefully some other opportunities come up off the back of pow wow.
