1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, is the original still for sale?
Joey Remmers: This was actually done as a commission last year. I take a couple every year and had a lot of fun with this one. The original is gone but I have a hand study available here on 1xRUN with this release.
1xRun: What materials were used and how long did it take to complete from start to finish?
Joey Remmers: This piece was painted in 2013 using oil on canvas. I would say from start to finish it took somewhere around 20-25 hours.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Joey Remmers: The client I worked with was very open. They liked waterfalls and wanted red included somewhere. Once that seed was planted the rest just came to life on its own.
1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.
Joey Remmers: Freeeeezing.
1xRun: Bring us up to speed on what you’ve been up to since your last release, how did 2013 wrap up for you and what have you been up to so far in 2014?
Joey Remmers: I took a bit of a hiatus from showing for a bit and focused on work that I wanted to explore. No deadlines and no restrictions, it was nice. Some of the work I produced will end up being shown later this year.
1xRun: You’ve recently been in a few groups shows, can you highlight some of your pieces from those?
Joey Remmers: Just participated at Corey Helford Gallery’s Pop-Iconic show. We had to take a favorite pop-icon from our childhood and re-imagine it in our own style. Had lots of fun with this one and got to use an idea that had been rattling around for a few years.
1xRun: Any new artists that have been inspiring you as of late?
Joey Remmers: I’m reading about Caravaggio right now, although he’s not exactly new…
1xRun: What else do you have on the docket for the next few months?
Joey Remmers: I’ve got a show in August with a couple other artists at Circa Gallery in Culver City so I’m going full steam on that. I’ll also have a piece in Nathan Spoor’s new Suggestivism Chronology exhibit at Copro Gallery that same month.
