Platform View is the latest collaboration from Brooklyn artist Kimyon Huggins and Godfather of Techno Juan Atkins. This limited edition 12-inch will be the first new release on Atkins’ recently revived Metroplex label. Here at 1xRun we’ve got our hands on the first 50 limited edition 12-inches and we decided they would look even better hand painted by Huggins himself. Last week Huggins joined us in a 20,000 sq. foot abandoned warehouse on Woodward to hand paint these limited edition sleeves for Platform View. The remaining 150 12-inches will be at distributors next few weeks, but we have them ready to go signed, numbered and with a Certificate of Authenticity from 1xRun. The infamous Detroit electronic music label, Metroplex, ran from 1985-2004 and was home to Atkins’ Model 500 and Infiniti along with Eddie Fowlkes, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Anthony Shakir, among others. In addition to his work with Atkins, over the years Huggins has worked with Stacey Pullen, Trax, Todd Terry and Danish singer Naja Rosa.

Platform View also features two B-side tracks “Make The Bed” and “Crunktastikk” which you can stream at Huggins’ website.
Although Huggins was originally drawn to DJing techno, he recently has found his way into painting. With his paintings, Huggins translates his ‘pure expression’ of his music into visual art through his androgynous, primitive figuration. Inspired both by the anonymous silhouettes of techno dance club-goers, as well as Buddhist imagery, Huggins strives to emphasize the universal nature of the human spirit. Huggins’ paintings and prints are also now available at 323East.
