Logan Hicks Makes 1x Debut With Siren Of The Sea

1xRUN Thru Interview
Siren Of The Sea  by Logan Hicks

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, what materials were used?
Logan Hicks:  In many ways the piece is a collaborative piece. The dress worn was created by Julius LaCour, the model was provided by Trump Agency, the make up was done by my friend Keri Blair, and the male model is none other than Beau Stanton, who has done prints with 1xRUN before! All my work is created with stencils and aerosol. I took the photo and worked from that, but the final result was created with 12 layers of stencil and aerosol on canvas.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Logan Hicks:  This painting was part of my recent exhibition “Love Never Saved”  this past March of 2014 in New York. The whole show revolved around water as a theme, so it has nautical superstitions and sailor traditions in it. This piece in particular was about the sirens of the sea who would lure sailors to their death with their beautiful voices.

1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Logan Hicks:   As long as was needed to make it look good.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Logan Hicks: It was made by me.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Logan Hicks: Because they see themselves in it. Whether through the content, the color, the mood or the ideas.

1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Logan Hicks:  Chilling.loganbloghero

1xRun: When did you first start making art? What was your first piece?
Logan Hicks:  Suppose I always made art. I just never stopped. The first piece that I was happy with was a 4-layer stencil portrait of my ex-girlfriend Heather Fulkoski.

1xRun: What artists inspired you early on? What about currently?
Logan Hicks:  Shepard Fairey was instrumental in helping me out early on. He still is helpful to this day. Aryz and his color palette and control makes me want to stop making art.

1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work? If so what? If not then what is your environment like when you work?
Logan Hicks:  Yes, always have music running in the studio. It’s a steady mix of everything from Old 97’s to Nas to Crass.

1xRun: What was the first piece of art that you bought? Do you still have it?
Logan Hicks:  First piece of work I bought was a painting by Deborah Donelson in Baltimore. It took me 3 years to pay it off!
