1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece Mr. Steez..
Madsteez: The piece was created towards the end of 2013 with oil, spray paint and acrylic. It was part of a double series where they are connected in the center with two of 90’s greats, Hammer and Ice.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Madsteez: I channeled my inner Hammer by wearing my gold Hammer pants, jacket, fishnet shirt, gold chains, combed my hair like Ice and proceeded to dance like Hammer for 4 hours straight.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Madsteez: Because Hammer himself gave me 3 fists and an “excellent work” !!!
1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.
Madsteez: LEGIT.
1xRun: This is your first time in Taiwan correct? What are you looking forward to ?
Madsteez: It is my first time to Taiwan and I’m looking forward to visiting some historical sights, such as open air markets that are totally mind-blowing!!!!!!
1xRun: Have you mapped out your plans for your wall for Pow Wow Taiwan or will you be improvising once you get to the wall?
Madsteez: I’m collabing on a wall with INSA and we’re doing one of his “gif-iti’s” but unfortunately he’s not here yet so we’ve been sending ideas back in forth but nothing is locked down yet. The wall is fucking HUGE! 120ft tall by 80ft wide and its going to be the biggest mural in Taiwan and we have to paint the thing four times!!!!
1xRun: You’re definitely staying busy as 2014 rolls on, what else do you have after Pow Wow Taiwan?
Madsteez: I’m always working on so many things at once so it’s hard to pinpoint but as we speak, I am working on a commissioned piece for the rapper The Game. And drying right now is a commissioned piece of Michael Jordan that I’m really excited about because he is going to come to my studio and come take a photo in front of it! Commercially, I am currently working on a project with Nike SB and Kobe Bryant, I have a TV show deal in the works, as well traveling to paint in Barcelona and Paris. Lastly, I can’t forget about painting for my solo show over the past 2 years which I hope to finally have closure at the end of this or beginning of next year.
1xRun: Anything you’d like to add that we didn’t touch on?
Madsteez: Me and Rone just went to the water park and we were literally the only 2 people there and we rode the watersides in tandem.
