1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, what materials did you use?
Mad Steez: This piece was created in January of 2013 and was done with a Sharpie on 11 x 17 inch water color paper. Unexpectedly, I hacked my way into a NASA online directory full of crazy high-res images of Nebulas, Supernovas and Black Holes when 2Pac’s “To The End of Time” came on and I was like “Holy shit, it’s a conspiracy. NASA sent him to explore the outer depths of space wearing a spacesuit forged of gold and silver from the Tycho Supernova Remnant.”
1xRun: Anything immediate you would like us to highlight?
Mad Steez: I recently received credible information that there’s a 44% chance 2Pac has reached a trajectory orbit inside the beltway of the Little Ghost Nebula in the Ophiuchus Constellation.
1xRun: How long did this piece take?
Mad Steez: It took me precisely 40.4 × 10−9 light years or to the laymen, 1 hour and 44 minutes. There was a stellar explosion at a velocity of 44,454 km/s (11% the speed of light) driving a shock wave into the surrounding interstellar medium causing the creation of SpaceWEENpac.
1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Mad Steez: When the WEENT!LL!ANs cross the Einstein-Rosen Bridge through the 4th dimension, they will choose SpaceWEENpac as their one true leader.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Mad Steez: To ensure their safety once the higher-dimensional analogues are irreversible in the calendar era of L.A.W. or Life After WEEN.
1xRun: Describe this print in one gut reaction word.
Mad Steez: SPACE
1xRun: When did you first start making art and what was your first piece?
Mad Steez: I’m going to go on record and say, when I was 6 and my Amish Uncle showed me how to draw pink polka dots on First Sergeant, Duke’s fatigues in my G.I Joe coloring book. I believe my first finished piece was when I made Snake Eyes into a transgender transsexual version of the Material Girl, Madonna.
1xRun: What artists inspired you early on? How about now?
Mad Steez: Early on, Salvador Dali was my favorite artist and I looked meticulously into his work. However, sadly I don’t think any of his genius rubbed off on me. I have just recently discovered Richard Jackson and that mother fucker blows me away! He somehow got shafted and overlooked in the art world (until now) and was doing things I could only dream of before I was even born.
1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work? If so what?
Mad Steez: I have 45 days worth of music in my iTunes ranging from everything to oldies, rock and hip-hip. So I will either let it play on random or put one song on repeat and listen to it for hours or days on end until I hate it.
1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why? Any deceased artists?
Mad Steez: Ai Weiwei, because I would have the ability to create something so out of this world that it would cause a black hole in our WEEN!VERSE. After visiting his Bejing studio, my Chinese deportation and two Skype calls later, that shit might actually happen! (For the latter) I’m going to say Leonardo da Vinci because if he were sucked through a wormhole into this day in age, just think of all the crazy things he would invent for the next 1,000 years.
1xRun: What was the first piece of art that you bought? Do you still have it? The last?
Mad Steez: My first piece I bought was in Bali, Indonesia from a local artist and it was an oil painting of an old Balinese man wearing a conical Asian hat and holding a chicken with razors tied onto its feet for cock fighting. I do still have the piece. The last piece of art I bought was a drawing from Jeff Hamada (of booooooom.com) . I’m going to go on record again and say, it was the first piece he ever sold.
