1xRun Thru Interview
Old Souls by Malt

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about these pieces, anything you’d like to highlight right off the bat?
Malt: This is my first series of cut outs. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, but haven’t had the opportunity until now, so I’m stoked!

1xRUN: What materials were used to create these pieces?
Malt: Acrylic and spray paint on laser cut wood.

1xRun: When were these pieces created and how long did they take ?
Malt: These were done in early to mid September 2014 and took a little over a week to finish.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Malt: After seeing 1xRUN working with other artist doing the wood cuts, and I really dug the idea and how rad they looked. I just thought it’d be cool to take what I am doing on canvas and transfer it over.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece compared to some of your other work?
Malt: That the actual image is cut out.

1xRun: Why should people buy one of these pieces?
Malt: Christmas is right around the corner…

1xRun: Describe these pieces in one gut reaction word.

1xRun: We haven’t caught up in a bit, tell us how your summer went, any big events or shows?
Malt: The summer was great! Got the paint the Bonnaroo music festival again and headed over seas to Amsterdam to paint as well. It was my first time over there, that place is amazing! Hopefully I can make it back next year. I also participated in a group show at the Urban Institute of Contemporary Arts in Grand Rapids and worked with Adidas designing some t shirts and socks for them.

1xRun: You’ve been staying nice and busy as of late, bring us up to speed on what you’ve been up to?
Malt: Yeah definitely staying busy. On top of the traveling and projects I mentioned above. I’ve been working on some new paintings in the studio. Painted a couple of murals around Detroit and built a big ass bird house with my dad. That was definitely a fun project.
