Nekoes Debuts With Loud Mouth Soup

1xRUN Thru Interview
Loud Mouth Soup by Nekoes

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, is the original still for sale?
Nekoes: I created this piece for 1xRUN to do a print with. It’s inspired by my lack of patience and understanding of my brother’s mental illness which is a combination of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Yes the original piece and 4 others are available here on 1xRUN.allblog1of21xRun: When was this piece created and with what materials?
Nekoes: This piece was created in January 2014 right after moving to Florida. Each piece in this series is mixed media on canvas. allblog2of21xRun: Anything immediate you would like us to highlight about this piece?
Nekoes: Banksy pushes Mongo.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Nekoes: By watching my brother smoke a ton of cigarettes and asking him a ton of questions about what the voices tell him and what his hallucinations are of. Then I just started too apply paint to the canvas.

1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Nekoes: About 2 weeks. I tend to stay working on a painting until it’s done. I hate starting something and stopping then coming back to it.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Nekoes: It’s the 1st piece I painted after moving to East Coast. It’s the first piece that I painted outside of my studio in San Diego. It’s also on canvas which I never paint on. Each piece was also painted with a limited paint palette of house paints and spray paint I found at my moms house.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Nekoes: Cuz’ it’ll get you tons of pussy, money and street cred by owning it…duh!

1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Nekoes: Shhhhhhhhhh.

1xRun: When did you first start making art? What was your first piece?
Nekoes: I started painting graffiti in 1993 then got introduced too fine art in 1996 by Boshe OA Crew. I had my first art show I think in 1998 which was Modest Behavior with Monica Hoover, Shepard Fairey, Dave Kinsey, Dalek, Deform, Chie and a ton of other amazing artists. From that show on I have been creating artwork.  I’d have to say my first piece was a painting of a giraffe.

1xRun: What artists inspired you early on? What artists inspire you now?
Nekoes: Early on it was Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein, Da Vinci, my Mom, SP One, Felon and Bosh, pals. As for now, Do the math crew, Honkey Kong, Tom Haubrick, Joey Vaiasuso, Adam Turk, Steven Dailey, Craola, Roids, Catcult, Onions, Sier mdr, Kris Konecki, Kevin Dickenson, Cooper, Aaron Delladova, Champ, Paul Dhuey, Mike Maxwell and Hamburger Eyes, to name a few.

1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work?
Nekoes: Yes, music is key in my creating process. Lately it’s been Skrapez, broadcast, Stereolab, Adrian Younge, Garland Green, Unbroken, Amenity, Slapshot, Eyeforeye, Madlib and Quasimoto,

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why? Any deceased artists?
Nekoes: Adam ‘Honkeykong’ Hathorn. He’s super talented, a great shit talker, works hard as fuck, and good with the ladies. He also drinks like a fish, has the same terrible taste in hip hop tunes as me and his art is usually dick and fart jokes based. Alright done blowing Adam now. For the next question it would be DONDI!!!!!! Because it’s DONDI!!!

1xRun: What was the first piece of art that you bought? Do you still have it? The last?
Nekoes: The first original artwork that I bought was 6 pieces from the homie Swamp Donkey at his lil show at Che Café. No, I gifted a few to the homie Omye and an ex-girlfriend. The last pieces that I bought were some small framed prints from the art walk in Santa Ana.

1xRun: Any big shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Nekoes: I will have a solo art show at Left Hand Black on May 3rd in  San Diego, California. After that I will be in a group art show of skateboarders about skateboarding called Kicked To The Curb group show at Labodga Gallery on May 10 also in San Diego.

1xRun: Where else can people find you?
