1xRUN Thru Interview
Line Work by Nick Jaskey

1xRUN: Tell us a little bit about this piece, is the original still for sale?
Nick Jaskey: I made this painting and 4 other smaller ones specify for 1xRUN. They are a continuation of a series I’ve been doing called “Line Work”. These paintings are a little more on the raw/ dirty side and I really like the way they came out. The original piece and 4 others are for sale here on 1xRUN.

1xRUN: When were these pieces created and with what materials?
Nick Jaskey:
I made this piece about a month ago. I painted this using acrylic paint on wood panels.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Nick Jaskey:
I’ve been really into shooting photos for a long time now and the idea for these paintings came from staring at those photos. I’m interested in documenting color and composition unknowingly created by other people in every day actions. The paintings are a reflection of that, broken down into an abstract form.

1xRun: How long did this series take?
Nick Jaskey:
I worked on these paintings over the course of a month.

1xRun: What is unique about these pieces?
Nick Jaskey:
I used to paint these things super hard edge, with no bleed marks in the lines. I wanted them to almost look printed from afar but up close you could see the textures in the paint. The process felt great but i would get really stressed out with the smallest imperfections. For these specific paintings i let the lines bleed and do there thing. I really like the energy it gives to the painting and it dose something interesting to your eyes too. So i would say these are a way dirtier version of what i would typically do, witch is defiantly the direction they are heading in from here. This is also the first time I’ve done a print of one of my paintings. That’s what makes them unique to me.

1xRun: When did you first start making art? What was your first piece?
Nick Jaskey:
Ever since I was a little kid. Making things makes me feel good, I guess it’s something I’ve always done. My first piece, I can’t really remember, it’s all a blur.

1xRun: What artists inspired you early on? How about currently?
Nick Jaskey:
I was inspired early on simply by graffiti and the idea of writing graffiti. Currently I’m inspired by my friends and the people around me.

1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work? If so what?
Nick Jaskey:
Yes I’m constantly listening to music. Music is a huge inspiration for me, I love all kinds of music. When I’m working in my studio I listen to a lot of reggae. Bright lights, nagg champa, and reggae seem to get things moving for me.

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why? Any deceased artists?
Nick Jaskey:
I would love to collaborate with this guy who writes REVS in New York City. He isn’t currently active and I’m positive he doesn’t consider himself an artist but his work really blew me away when I was a teenager living in New York City. I spent so much time hunting down every last thing this guy did and I’m sure I didn’t find even half of it. My friend took me to this abandoned park in Queens one time and I followed him into the center of it and he pushes back some bushes covering a fence and REVS had welded a metal sculpture to the bottom of the fence that said “DIE DREAMING”. I can’t imagine many people have seen that one, but it totally knocked the wind out of me, it was amazing. For the latter, it would be my friend Sean Griffin who passed away last year. I didn’t get to spend enough time with that guy. He was huge inspiration on a lot of people.

1xRun: What was the first piece of art that you bought? Do you still have it? The last?
Nick Jaskey:
I bought a painting one of my friends did for a art show years ago. I do still have it. The last was a print from a thrift store titled “cross town traffic”.
