Peeta Returns With Tell Your Bumps

1xRun Thru Interview
Tell Your Bumps by Peeta

1xRun: Was this piece part of a recent  theme, series or show that you had?
Peeta:  Not really, it is part of 2011 production. The most of the works I have painted during the last part of that year follow the same trend: the painting of fictional brush strokes over the 3d piece on canvas. The practice inspired me in order to create new volumetric and dynamic effects.

Each time I paint a new canvas, I aim to discover the most optimal way to use colors, light and shade to reach a three-dimensional result. Layering splashes of color over the letters brings into keen focus their three-dimensionality, transforming them into real objects that not only cast shadows but also receive or obscure the subsequent blottings and swipes of paint.

1xRun: When was this piece created and with what materials?
Peeta: This piece was over the course of a week more or less in November 2011 using a mixed media on canvas, mainly airbrush.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Peeta:  The energy it spreads.

1xRun: Describe this print in one gut reaction word.
Peeta:  Fresh!

1xRun: How did you first start painting your current 3D style?
Peeta: I did not start writing in 3D, my style got transformed into a 3D one in 2000, more or less. Before of that my style was flat, graphic and organically formed but I’ve then turned it into something twisted and round. The role of sculpture has been essential in this process: it has helped me to deeply discover and understand the rules of shadows, the disposition of colours, surfaces and shapes.

1xRun: How have you seen this style continue to evolve since you began it?
Peeta: I’m always trying to improve my technical skills. Also, despite the depth of research into technical and formal perfection, the materialness of three-dimensional painting hides a deeply spiritual side, which I am managing to enrich during the years.

I have produced really a lot, so I am very satisfied with the years that has just finished.

1xRun: Any big plans coming up as 2014 gets underway here?
Peeta:
I am dedicating myself to some great commissions and booking some very interesting exhibitions. I am keeping on studying the interaction of video mapping and sculptures and collaborating with great architectural mappers so to design unique interacting pieces of art.
