Persue Returns For The 10-Year Bunny Kitty Anniversary With BK Spritza!

1xRUN Thru Interview
BK Spritza! by Persue

1xRUN: Tell us a little bit about this piece…
Persue: This piece was draw in celebration of Bunny Kitty’s 10 year anniversary. My first Bunny Kitty drawing was in 2001 but I started the company in 2004.

1xRUN: Was this piece part of a recent  theme, series or show that you had?
Persue: I wanted to create some fun elements to the character without always having to draw the entire body. So a few years ago I started just drawing her head as a throw-up. It was more of a POP art approach to the character. The heads have become more and more distorted through the years. This particular drawing I wanted to depict BK in her natural state. Actually coming out of the tool she was created with through the years, the spraycan.persue-01

1xRUN: What materials were used to create this piece with?
Persue: Sharpie on paper then Adobe illustrator.

1xRUN: When was the piece created and how long did it take to complete?
Persue: This drawing was created in January 2014 and took I think around 6 hours to finish. Most of it was cleaning it up in the computer.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Persue: I was drawing concepts for this print release and came up with this loose sketch. I liked it so I took a sharpie too it. Once I had it inked I put in the computer to see I could make something of it. The end result is what you see. Bunny Kitty depicted in a POP art fashion.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Persue: That it is a hand pulled silkscreen and the use of the transparent inks.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Persue: To commemorate Bunny Kitty’s 10th anniversary.

1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.
Persue: SPRITZA! Spritza is a term coined by my friend Chaos MSK to describe spray painting.

1xRun: Anybody you’d personally like to collaborate with if the opportunity presented itself?
Persue: I think anyone listed above I’d be stoked.

1xRun: Have you been to Hawaii before or will this be your first time out there? What are you looking forward to?
Persue: I’ve been to the islands many times. Mostly on business with a shoe company I use to work with. We would go over there to work with some of the pro surfers. I’ve been there on vacation a few times as well. This trip is going to be special. I am looking forward to being with my friends at 1xRun, also making new friends and catching up with old ones. Doing all of this in Hawaii is going to be unreal.

1xRun: Do you have any plans for your wall out there or are you just going to improvise it when you get there?
Persue: I am always planning. I have my sketchbook and my ability to improv. I don’t even know if I have a wall assigned to me yet. I don’t know what it will look like. So I will have to see it when I arrive then start to prepare to paint.

1xRun: You’ve been staying crazy busy per usual, bring us up to speed on some of the walls you’ve been doing lately?
Persue: I was in Gudalajara in November to paint a large wall. It was a collaborate between 4 other Mexican artists. At the end of November I went out to New York City to collaborate with my friend Rime MSK on a job in a crazy mansion across the street from the Met. That was awesome. At the beginning of December I went out to Art Basel with the plans to do something big with Rime and Dabs n Myla…instead I ended up in jail with Rime and Gorey. That sucked! I was lucky my girlfriend and Mecca were on the outside working on getting us out. I got out in time to do two paintings. The letter mash up I did with Rime was quick but a lot of fun.

1xRun: How did 2013 wrap up for you?
Persue: After a very busy 2013 it was nice to be back home to celebrate the end of the year with my daughter and my girlfriend. On New Years Eve my friend Ata Bozaci aka Toast flew in to stay with me. I was at the airport when the clock struck midnight waiting for him. My girlfriend was not too happy about that.

1xRun: Aside from Pow Wow 2014, what are your plans for the new year?
Persue:  When I am finished at Pow Wow instead of flying home I will fly straight to Vegas to work with a shoe company for a couple of days. I may go finish a large wall that was started out there when we visited in January with Dabs, Myla, Kems, Trav, Toast and Ewok. After that I will head to NYC at the beginning of March to collab with Rime and Gorey. We will release a zine based on our art-ing/jail experience in Miami. From NYC I will go to Detroit to work on a very special project with 1xrun. Something I’ve been dreaming of doing for the last 10years. But I am happy that I waited until now. I will give you a hint it will have hundreds of colorful pages. I have a solo show in San Diego in August that I will prepare for. I will also work with my family on our clothing company HOME. Lots to do already for 2014.
