Releases: Matt W. Moore & 1xRUN Unveil 3-Tier Laser Etched Clock

Matt W. Moore has been with 1xRUN from the very beginning, his Infinity Knot Theory was RUN #00072 back in 2011. He’s never been one to follow convention and his latest 3-tiered laser etched birch wood clock is no different. We caught up with Moore to discuss his latest release Carpe Diem created using laser etching and cutting birch wood.

1xRUN: Let’s start by discussing the design on the clock, how did that come about?
Matt W. Moore: I have always enjoyed creating symmetrical, concentric, mandala-esk artworks. For this circular wall clock it is a perfect fit. Some large details, some small rings of geometry and the hour markers almost disappear into the maze of geometry.

1x: Tell us a little bit more about this piece.
Matt W. Moore: This piece was a lot of fun to design, especially since it has been actualized with laser etching on wood and has the three levels that create a nice depth with shadows. Maximalism design meets a timeless wooden construction.

1x: Was there an original piece created for this design or was it made specifically for this clock?
Matt W. Moore: I designed the artwork digitally with vector graphics and it was brought to life with a robotic laser, literally burning the design into the wood!

1x: When was the piece created?
Matt W. Moore: This design was created in the Fall of 2014 and finalized right before the new year.

1x: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Matt W. Moore: I always enjoy working with the good folks at 1xRun. We have always done something new and different with each of the releases I have had with them. This time around I proposed the idea of a three-dimensional wall clock with the design laser etched into the surface. An ambitious idea, certainly we could have flexed less, but we all agreed it was worth it to push it to the limit and make something really unique. A real collectors item that will become a cherished heirloom piece for many, many years to come!

1x: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Matt W. Moore: Lasers!

1x: Bring us up to speed on what you’ve been up to the past 3-4 months as 2015 is well under way.
Matt W. Moore: I’ve been staying busy with graphic design projects, personal work, murals, sculptures and most recently, the launch of my Core Deco 2015 Collection of jacquard woven blankets. Also a new Glyph Cue Spring/Summer Collection dropping in a few. Researching and exploring new techniques is a really exciting process. I enjoy the learning curve of new disciplines and the eureka moments that happen through experimentation.

1x: What else do you have on tap for the summer, any shows or murals coming up?
Matt W. Moore: Hyped for this Summer. I’m currently traveling for mural projects and will be moving out to Oakland for a few months to prepare for my solo show at 886 Geary (White Walls) opening in August. After a long Winter in Montreal everyday feels like a new adventure now that the weather is warm and the sun is shining. Looking forward!
