Tom Bagshaw Captures Cassandra In Latest Edition

1xRun Thru Interview
Cassandra by Tom Bagshaw

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about Cassandra, is the original sold?
Tom Bagshaw: This piece was initially a concept about prophecy/divination and evolved into a piece that combined a variety of religious symbolism with feminine beauty.  This was a piece was my contribution to the Moon Goddess show which took place at Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco, October of 2012. The original is now sold.

1xRUN: What materials were used to create this piece? When was it created?
Tom Bagshaw: This piece was digitally painted over the course of a week or so with Painter, Artrage and Photoshop. It was created at the beginning of Sept 2012.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Tom Bagshaw: The title was in part a reference to the Greek legend of Cassandra, who was ‘gifted’ with prophecy but obviously her story isn’t exactly a pleasant one! The title is also coincidentally the name of the model in the piece!tumblr_mbu9udtsEx1revaeso2_640

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Tom Bagshaw: That’s always a tricky one to answer! Hopefully everyone sees something different!

1xRun: Describe the print in one gut reaction word.
Tom Bagshaw: Playful.

1xRun: You recently had female muses on Instagram submit some photos for reference for upcoming paintings, tell us a little bit about the idea behind that and how the experiment went?
Tom Bagshaw: That was a bit of an experiment to see what would happen, it’s always good to meet new models and Instagram has grown into a great way of networking with people who are interested in the same visual stuff. I originally intended to do a series of 12 portraits with models selected from people on IG. I put out a call for models and asked people to add a #tombagshaw to any image they wanted me to see if they wanted to be part of the series.

The response was pretty crazy, I had over 800 images tagged in 24hrs! I closed the call then went through every image and made a shortlist for the series. I was blown away by some of the models who wanted to be involved – including some incredible artists whose work I love, painting them is pretty daunting! The response was so good I upped the portraits from 12 to 20, at the moment I’m just over the half way point!portrait-previews

1xRun: You were part of the recent Game Of Thrones exhibition, how did that go? What were some of your favourite aspects of the show?
Tom Bagshaw: It was great to be involved in the show, some incredible works were on show. (Tom Bagshaw’s Prophecy is below)

Some of my favourites were Jason Edmiston‘s ‘Mother of Dragons’, Mia Araujo‘s ‘Porcelain, Ivory and Steel’ along with ‘Samwell’ by Esao Andrews and ‘Jaqen H’ghar’ by Joao Ruas. It was nice to be on show with them! got1miajason gotesaojaquen1xRun: Any other big upcoming events for you in the summer?
Tom Bagshaw: I’ve got some group shows lined up, including a piece in the ‘Otherworld’ show at Roq La Rue, really looking forward to seeing the rest of the works in the show! Im going to be finishing up the portrait series and have the dubious joy of redoing my website and shop.

1xRun: Where else can people find you?
