1xRun Thru Interview
Pinocchio by Vidam
1xRun: Tell us a bit about this piece…
Vidam: This is a screen print piece with 4 colors. I don’t really like to create drawings that refer to other pop cultural symbols, in this case Pinocchio, but I really loved the idea of Pinocchio telling us an obvious lie on our self-concept.
1xRun: When was the piece drawn and created?
Vidam: I created it when I was in a tiny village in Switzerland for another paint job. In the evening I sat in my hotel room and had the idea to draw a Pinocchio that tells us a brutal lie about our life.
1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Vidam: I did it in the evenings between another painting job, so I guess that it was finished on two evenings.
1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Vidam: It is a mash-up of a famous pop cultural symbol like Pinocchio, my personal style and a deeper reflective message about your own life. Pinocchio tells you, that your life is totally cool, but his nose rises like hell, something seems to be untrue.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Vidam: Because it’s funny and makes you think about your existence.
1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Vidam: Beautiful lie.
1xRun: When did you first start making art? What was your first piece?
Vidam: I can’t remember, I draw since I can remember. I guess a tiny drawing as a small kid
1xRun: What artists inspired you early on? What artists inspire you now?
Vidam: Early on it was Andre Franquin and Salvador Dali. Now it is simply Mother Nature.
1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work? If so what?
Vidam: I need music all day long! I love music more than everything else. Mostly I definitively prefer electronic dance music but in this field everything between Deep/Electro/Tech-House, Dubstep, Drum&Bass, UK-Bass etc…

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why? Any deceased artist?
Vidam: I’d really love to collab with Takashi Murakami or Wim Delvoye because I love their works. I guess with Salvador Dali. On the one hand this guy just was totally freaked out and on the other hand he was a brilliant painter!
1xRun: What was the first piece of art that you bought? Do you still have it? The last?
Vidam: Hard to define what art is, but in my opinion comics and vinyl records are art too. I still have my whole collection of records! I collect graphic novels and the last one I bought was Lisbon by Cyril Pedrosa.
1xRun: Where else can people find you?
