Yosuke Ueno’s Girl Floweregg Like a Buddha Style

1xRun Thru Interview
Girl Floweregg Like a Buddha Style by Yosuke Ueno

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, how long did it take to create?
Yosuke Ueno:  I created this piece inspired by statues of Japanese Buddhism. This piece was created in 2012 with acrylic on canvas.  I can’t remember how long it took to finish this piece.  However, I am the type of artist who doesn’t like to work on multiple pieces at the same time, so I do remember being really concentrated on this piece when I did it.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about, what is unique about this piece?
Yosuke Ueno: The girl is painted as an allegory of unbloomed flower. I create many pieces inspired by plants. I love growing plants and flowers. Sometimes I feel as if they know wisdom of life far better than I do. As I mentioned in the previous question, the girl represents unbloomed flower. The petals surrounding the girl’s hair are not in their full bloom and that is a metaphor of “unawakened” or “unenlightened.” So the girl is on her way to find wisdom of life. The name Buddha means “person who attains spiritual enlightenment,” in other words, Buddha is a person who reached out to wisdom of life. That is the reason why I titled this piece as Girl Floweregg Like a Buddha Style. The girl is not “Buddha girl,” but she’s on her way to bloom her spiritual flower.
