Young Chun Debuts With Under the Stars

1xRUN Thru Interview
Under The Stars by Young Chun

1xRUN: Tell us a little bit about this piece.
Young Chun: It’s one of two pieces of mine that was exhibited at the Scope NY art fair 2014, at the C.A.V.E gallery booth B-09. The thought of people sharing similar feelings or a moment in time through music helped fuel the creation of this piece.

1xRUN: How long did it take to complete?
Young Chun: This painting took over a week to paint after the image had been fully matured in my mind. My paintings are inspired by people, my surroundings, memories from my past and things of that nature. They give birth to images in my head that develop into the pictures that I paint.

1xRUN: What do you feel is unique about this piece?
Young Chun: I feel that this piece is unique because it visually conveys my emotions and what I was feeling at the time of painting it. I’d like to think that someone out there, under the same stars, shared that same feeling.

1xRUN: Why do you think people should buy this print?
Young Chun:They should buy this print if they feel it speaks to them.

1xRun: When did you first start making art? What was your first piece?
Young Chun: I first started making art as a kid. Like most people did when they were kids, to pass the time or just to have something to do. My first piece that I did, like the ones I’m doing now, was several years ago. Although, I choose not to analyze every aspect of the visual content in my work, I think the characters in my paintings are being aware of their own existence and wondering why the viewer stares at them, as they stare back through their shades.

1xRUN: What artists inspired you early on? Who inspires you now?
Young Chun: The artists that inspired me early on were the older kids in Sunday school, who drew pictures in their notebooks instead of taking notes in them. I always thought it was cool and was very impressed by creative minds, who could take something non-existing and bring it to life in some shape or form. To me these older kids who drew creatures and robots were doing that. So many artist inspire me now. Most recently, I’m being inspired by Martin Whatson, Morten Andersen, PEETA, PURE EVIL, Fin DAC, Tom French, Zach Johnsen, John Park, Max Neutra, and many more.

1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work? If so, what?
Young Chun: Now-days when I’m working, I usually just tune into KROQ. But sometimes I’ll dig through my old CD’s and listen to glam-rock or metal bands like Kiss, X-Japan, Skid Row, and Warrant.

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?
Young Chun: Although, I love and respect the works of many artists, I don’t think I would collaborate with any artist living or deceased. To me, painting has always been a personal experience.

1xRun: Where else can people find you?
