1xRUN Thru Interview
Big TasTilt by Tilt

1xRun: Tell us about this piece, when was it created & with what materials?
Tilt: I did this piece for a solo show I had at the beginning of this year in Los Angeles at Fabien Castanier gallery. The name of the exhibition was “ All You Can Eat “ and it was a big series about classic American food. I painted hot dogs, tacos, donuts, ice creams, fries… and of course burgers. This was created at the end of last year using spray paint and acrylic makers.

Tilt: Yes, my friend Sket took me to Fat Burger one day and he told me that it would be the best burgers I will ever have…He was right!!!! I don’t know if the idea of doing a whole show about food came out that day but something changed in my life…hahaha!!!

1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Tilt: I would say about 3 or 4 days cause it s a big format (78 x 78”).

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Tilt: I hope that my style can be qualified as unique, ’cause I’m one of the only graffiti artist who focus on doing figurative painting made of letters.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Tilt: Because they are hungry…!

1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Tilt: Tasty.1xRUN-Tilt-Hamburger-22x22-Web01B

1xRun: What have you been up to since your last release with us?
Tilt: I tried to combine all my loves, graffiti, girlfriend, travels, fetishism, throw ups, sex, skate board, friends, family… and believe me it s almost fucking impossible…!

1xRun: Any big plans for the next 2-3 months?
Artist: I m going to paint a big wall in Beyrouth in September and I want to spend more time doing graffiti and throw ups with my guys…

1xRun:When did you first start making art? What was your first piece?
Tilt:
I started doing tags on skateboard ramps in 1988 with my crew SSN, Skate Speed Nation. My real first piece was “Til-Ber” for Tilt and Tober, my best friend. It was in the basement of my parent’s project.

1xRun: What artists inspired you early on? Who inspires you now?
Tilt:
Early on I was really inspired by the classic New York writers like Dondi, Seen, Skeme, Cap for his throw ups but also Vaughn Bode. As for now, it is people like OsGemeos, Twist, Yasumasa Yonehara, Todd James, Mark Gonzales and so many more…

1xRun:Do you listen to music while you work? If so what?
Tilt:
My best friend Tober is also a musician and Benji my other friend I work with in my studio is a sound maker so I listen most of the time to their selection so it goes from the Clash to the Beastie Boys.

1xRun:If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why?  Any deceased artists?
Tilt:
I did some paintings with OsGemeos but it was always really classic graffiti by day or night but I d love to do a real collaboration with them on a giant wall or maybe an installation. I really appreciate their work but most of all I like their attitude and good vibes. As for the latter, with no hesitation…I would be doing a whole car with Dondi.

1xRun: What was the first piece of art that you bought? Do you still have it? The last?
Tilt:
I bought a picture of a girl walking in high heels, a beautiful black and white photo that I still have. The last would be a Todd James print that I love and that I got in L.A for Art in the streets.

1xRun:Where can people find you?
