Indie Returns With Fantasy

1xRUN Thru Interview
Fantasy by Indie

1xRun: Tell us a bit about this piece, was it part of a recent series?
Indie: I love the way the print captures the colors and textures of the original painting.  I started this painting in March, put it down for a couple of months then finished it in May 2013. I used a variety of mediums including enamel, latex and spray paints, along with acrylics, paper, watercolor, oil paste, glitter and plaster.

This painting is the featured piece from my recent series, Fantasy, which was my first solo show in New York City this past May. As of right now it is literally being packed up and being shipped to Beverly Hills for an auction in November.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Indie: I wanted to create a theme of fantasy inspired by ocean life. So the theme came about real life inspiration turned into a sort of fairy tale art imitates life. Some of the content is top secret stuff but you can peek through and see some clues. Honestly, I no longer see them as old Hollywood starlets. It’s all about the pose and expression – that’s why I carefully curate which ones I will work with. The female portraits in the paintings are sirens – like the spirit of the painting depicting the mood and emotions of the painting.

1xRun: How long did the piece take from start to finish?
Indie: A couple of days. This was the first painting I created from the series so I solely focused on it. It set the tone for the rest of the series – the paintings in the show.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece compared with your other work?
Indie: For the first time I used plaster to alter the texture and experimented with glitter and watercolors. Also this painting was the first time I started to accent the features of each portrait. I wanted to have more fun with their beauty. I still love the black and white photographic aspects but I wanted to step it up. They are too beautiful to not to play with them.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Indie: I put my heart and soul into my work and I want to share it with the world. Plus, it is a great opportunity to add an exclusive piece of art in their collection.

1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.
Indie: Mystic.

1xRun: You’ve been staying busy since your last RUN, what have you been up to?
Indie: Since my last run, I have had two solo shows a couple of group shows. My collaboration with MAC Cosmetics was released in the US and now internationally. For the first time, I went to paint in Reykjavik, Iceland. I am grateful that this year I have been able to produce such a large body of work. I also released my first ever zine, so it was exciting to venture into a different zone.
