Wayne White’s “Spark In The Void” For Pow Wow Hawaii 2014

xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, is the original still for sale?

Wayne White:  The original piece was created in 2012 using acrylic paint on a found offset lithograph landscape reproduction. No, the original of “Spark in the Void” is sold.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Wayne White: This is a series I’ve been doing for almost 15 years, painting words into found landscape reproductions. It came about simply as a one-time joke, but soon took on a life of it’s own.

1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Wayne White: A week.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Wayne White: I created a whole genre with this series- giant dimensional words in a landscape. Look online, turn on the tv or in any magazine and you will see my influence everywhere.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Wayne White: It’s an affordable version of my original work, which sells for between $8,000-$30,000

1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Wayne White: Existential.

1xRun: This will be your first year joining the Pow Wow Hawaii family, who are some of the artists you’re really excited to see painting out there?
Wayne White: I’m new to the street art scene. It’s not really part of my world, but I am eager to get acquainted with everyone.

1xRun: Have you been to Hawaii before or will this be your first time out there? What are you looking forward to?
Wayne White: First time in Hawaii and I’m eager for all the obvious reasons- the weather, the landscape, the history, the legend.
