Avone Returns With Build & Destroy

1xRUN Thru Interview
Untitled 2014 by Avone

1xRun: Tell us a bit about this piece, is the original still for sale?
Avone:  This piece was created in the summer of 2013 at Canadamil Studio. Yes, the original is still for sale, it was big, roughly 76 x 60 inches.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Avone: While at Candamil we were preparing for a show at Wynwood so I wanted to execute something big and major.  Pretty much everything was organic and just fell into place.  Christian Vargas shot Jana Wirth and we wanted to use it as part of the composition and from there it was all “happy little accidents”.

1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Avone:  I’d say about 3 months tops from shadow to substance.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Avone: Everything. From the layers to the size its pretty epic. Only nature could make a collaboration as good.

Avone:  It says everything visually.

1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.

1xRun: When did you first start making art? What was your first piece?
Avone:  Since i could remember. I don’t know what to define as first.

1xRun: What artists inspired you early on? What artists inspire you now?
Avone:  All my art teachers growing up. That was the only art in my environment at the time and place. As for now, JMR, Michael Alan, Ron Haywood Jones…the list is long.

1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work? If so what?
Avone: I like any kind of music that involves feeling. sound is good i like a little distraction/motivation..music is a good motivation/emotional stimulant

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why? Any deceased artists?
Avone: Kehinde Wiley cause he’s amazing and doesn’t give a shit about the “blogosphere”. For the latter, it would be Keith Haring cause he was a good guy in a bad environment.

1xRun: What was the first piece of art that you bought? Do you still have it? The last?
Avone:  The first was this guy named Joesph who would be in a wheelchair selling art in the 14th street train station..mostly of aliens interacting or destroying urban landscapes.  He’s an nyc cult classic. The last was an oil painting by George Crosby of the Manhattan skyline up close and personal in the dead of the night…he’s an old school SoHo based street artist–as in you can catch him in the street–no relation to common day definition of street artist)
