Spectre 3 by Dan Quintana
1xRun: When was this piece created? Was it for a show?
Dan Quintana: This painting was created in December of 2013 and exhibited at Copro gallery in Los Angeles and Scope New York. It was part of my “Spectre” series which was primarily themed around ghostly apparitions of female portraits. Some taken from real stories, others free styled what came in mind. It was exhibited in Los Angeles and New York. The original is sold.
1xRun: When was this piece created and with what materials?
Dan Quintana: It was created in 2013 using oil on wood.
1xRun: Anything immediate you would like us to highlight?
Dan Quintana: This is my first painting in which it contains all of my styles of laying down oil.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Dan Quintana: I wanted to combine the different styles in oil painting into one portrait but yet pulling off a composition and color that would blend these techniques together.
1xRun: How long did this piece take?
Dan Quintana: 2 months.
1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Dan Quintana: The hand is actually posed from my very own hand.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Dan Quintana: It is the greatest painting to be conceived within our universe. Upon holding this paper, an event horizon will manifest itself surrounding you from which gravity will then prevent anything, including light, from escaping within your circumference.
1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.
Dan Quintana: Nice.
1xRun: Any recent murals that you’ve done lately that you want to share?
Dan Quintana: I created a mural at Black Ocean Group’s HQ in New York City, thanks to Branded Arts from Culver City.
1xRun: Any big shows or events coming up ?
Dan Quintana: I will be hosting a table at Comic Con San Diego in July, a full collab show in August with the talented Karen Hsiao at Marcus gallery, and a four person show at Soze gallery in LA.
