1xRUN Thru Interview
Electric Mayhem by Avone & Matt Siren
1xRun: Was this piece part of a recent theme, series or show that you had? If so how did it fit into that given grouping?
Avone: This piece was part of a theme Matt and I were building on a few years ago but hadn’t finalized until now.
Matt Siren: The piece is one of 5 or 6 posters designed with characters from our youth.
1xRun: When was this piece created and with what materials?
Avone: This piece was created in 2012 and was drawn in 2014 then executed using a mix of acrylic and screen printing.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Avone: We both wanted to share some of our favorite television eras which broadcast a lot of pop culture dating back from the 50’s through the 80’s and come up with a consistent series, this being one of a few.
Matt Siren: We were just juxtaposing/mixing personalities.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Matt Siren: There’s no nudity. It’s safe for the kids.
1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.
Avone: Self portrait.
1xRun: You two have collaborated a few times correct, when did you first meet?
Avone: 2007.
Matt Siren: I think it was 2007. I went to one of AV’s studio shows to check out his work.
1xRun: What was the first piece you both worked on and where?
Avone: A few sign pieces for a collaboration show “Street Language” at Woodward gallery back in 2007/2008.
Matt Siren: I had a show in 2008 where half the work was collaboration pieces. We worked on 4 pieces at AV’s studio for that show.
1xRun: What aspects of each others work are you drawn most to?
Avone: His clean cut execution.
Matt Siren: His use of texture and layers.
1xRun: Any big shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Avone: I have collaboration project/show with #whatthehec creator Hector Arias this June. I also have a solo show in Cologne, Germany this fall.
1xRun: Where else can people find you?
