1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, is the original still for sale?
Madsteez: The piece was actually commissioned by Stan Lee himself. I guess he saw the WEENleton painting and he just had to painted in a similar fashion.
1xRun: When was this piece created and with what materials?
Madsteez: The piece was completed on Oct. 30th 2013 at 1:44am and was made with oil, spray enamel and latex paint.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Madsteez: Stan personally picked the image he wanted painted and he also picked his catch phrase “excelsior” as the tagline at the bottom.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Madsteez: Because if it’s good enough for Stan the mutha’ fukn’ man, then its good enough for you!!
1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.
Madsteez: EXCELSIOR.
1xRun: Tell us a bit about what it was like meeting with Stan Lee…
Madsteez: Stan may be 91 years old put he is a sharp as a Valyrian steel. He’s witty, funny and could still probably kick my ass. I probably would have shut it down 20 or so years earlier but homey still is on the grind and coming up with new shit.
1xRun: Were you very into comics when you were a kid? or now?
Madsteez: I wasn’t huge on comics as a kid but I remember jumping out skin when I got to go see the first Batman on my 9th birthday (even though I know it’s DC Comics). That shit changed my life. Especially the scene where him and his henchmen “vandalize” the art gallery.
