1xRun: Was this piece part of a recent  theme?
Derek Hess: Well, it was part of an on going theme of bad relationships and not handling them very well, which I’ve become pretty good at.

1xRUN: What materials did you use to create this piece?
Derek Hess: This ‘Burned Out’ is burned or etched into the wood, the red on the arms I laid down with a wire brush, I worked fast with the crude tools to keep the feel consistent with the rest of the piece.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Derek Hess: The first laser etched piece done with 1xRUN, Hemorrhage, came out so nice and true to the original that another one would be cool to try. Burned Out was a no brainer, it’s burned out.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Derek Hess:  What is cool about these pieces is they are all part of an edition, all the figures are handled the same, so it is a true edition. But at the same time each one is unique because the red is different on every one.

1xRun: Why should people buy this piece?
Derek Hess: What I find very cool about this piece is you get a unique one of a kind signed and numbered edition print, it’s the best of both worlds.

Derek Hess: Film maker, Nick Cavalier, is finishing up a documentary about me called “Forced Perspective” which is slated for an early 2015 release. I’m also just getting work together for several solo shows in 2015 AND I’ll have a batch of Native American fish mixed with WWII aircraft pen ink and acrylic pieces that 1xRUN will be handling as well. They’re a lot of fun!
