1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about.
Hueman: All of the pieces in this show were created organically, first by painting a spontaneous, freehand abstract background, then finding faces in the paint, carving them out, and building around them with shapes and lines. This one was no exception. Everything I create moves along an improvised stream of consciousness. The title describes the mood I was in when I painted it, and is also the title of a song that I had playing while in my studio.

1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Hueman: It took about 2 or 3 days to complete. I was in a really good groove when I worked on it, everything seemed to flow together just right.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Hueman: The composition is what makes it unique from the rest of my work. The figure is lying down and looking up, and there is a hand, something that I don’t usually paint that often. The abstract clouds and negative space dominate, and the figure doesn’t stand out but instead melts into this strange cloudy shape.

1xRun: Why should people buy this piece?
Hueman: It’s dreamy, vulnerable and powerful at the same time. The colors and detail of this print are ridiculously close to the real thing.

1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.
Hueman: Prismatic.

1xRun: You’ve definitely been staying busy over the summer, give us a few of your favorite projects that you’ve worked on.
Hueman:
I painted a mural at a bookstore in Oakland, a collaborative mural with the band Cults, and most recently an office installation in the Bay Area with Branded Arts. All while painting brand new pieces for an upcoming New York show.

1xRun: You also had a recent solo show over the summer, how did that go?
Hueman: My solo show “Between the Lines” ran from June through July, and it went really well. I created 12 pieces that all I was also a featured artist at La Luz De Jesus in August as part of their Laluzapalooza Jury Winners show. Now I’m in the Art Collector Starter Kit Show which is on display at Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles, and at CASS Contemporary in Tampa, FL, I’m one of 5 artists in their Outsiders exhibit.

1xRun: Any recent murals that you’ve done that you want to highlight?
Hueman: I did a 30ft long mural installation at an office space in the SF Bay Area the other week, and I had no choice but to finish it in only two days. I thought I had more time but I realized I had to be back in LA earlier than I expected. The extra pressure ended up working in my favor, because it’s probably one of my favorite murals I’ve done this year. Also, I used quite a bit of water-based spray paint, and so I was able to get this really awesome watercolor and drippy effect that I previously reserved for my canvas work.

1xRun: Any upcoming shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Hueman: I’m working on a big show, “So Far So Good” coming up at Joseph Gross Gallery which opens October 9th in New York, with Erik Jones and Alex Yanes.  It’s almost like three small solo shows. Very excited about this one, it’s going to be fire.
