Cyrcle Returns With Totym

1xRun Thru Interview
Totym by Cyrcle

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, is the original still for sale?
Cyrcle:  This is the last piece of the OVERTHRONE! theme. This was a digitally created design paying homage to pre-computer, traditional graphic design. The concept is rooted in breaking down mythologies, and overthrowing power.

1xRun: When was the piece drawn and created?
Cyrcle: The piece was created during our recent travels to Europe, specifically in Vienna, Austria 2014.

1xRun: Anything immediate you would like us to highlight?
Cyrcle: We are pleased with marriage of concept and composition as well as the color theory/balance.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Cyrcle: We wanted to create the final piece of art for the OVERTHRONE! campaign, ending with this print. The design suggests the infinite nature of mythologies of the mind and the power they wield.

1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Cyrcle: That’s a secret.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Cyrcle: It is the final piece of the OVERTHRONE! concept.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Cyrcle: Because it is the OVERTHRONE! finale piece of art.

1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Cyrcle: Myths-understood.

1xRun: When did you first start making art? What was your first piece?
Cyrcle: Since we were kids however Cyrcle was established in 2010.
Davey: My first piece for sale was in San Francisco…it was a painting of a young man on the BART train, part of a series of portraits.
Rabi: My first piece was a drawing of the Ninja Turtles.

1xRun: What artists inspired you early on?
Davey:
I moved to SF when I was 18 and loved seeing TWIST (Barry McGee) and David Choe all over the city. I also was inspired by bigger names such as John Baldessari and Barbara Kruger.
Rabi: Swoon.

1xRun: What artists inspire you now?
Cyrcle:
Rick Owens, the designers in cupertino, Woodkid and Faile.

1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work? If so what?
Cyrcle:
Stromae, Simon & Garfunkle, COZZ dreams & awkward white girls such as Iggy Azalea and Meghan Trainor… I’m all about that bass no treble.

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why? Any deceased artists?
Cyrcle: Jeff Koons so we can kill him and hijack his minions and foundry. For the latter it would be Alexander McQueen because duh.

1xRun: What was the first piece of art that you bought? Do you still have it?
Cyrcle: $600 pair of shoes at Lane Crawford, Hong Kong.

1xRun: Any big shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Cyrcle: MythsUnderstood, BLACKCYRCLE and Scramble for Power.
