1xRun: Tell us a bit about this piece? Is the original sold?
Fulvio Di Piazza: It’s a small painting borne from improvising and it represents a small sum of my surreal way of conceiving the pictorial image. The original was sold two years ago.
1xRun: Was this part of a recent show that you’ve had?
Fulvio Di Piazza: No, this was not part of a group of works intended for a show, it was exhibited and sold at an art fair in Bologna in 2012.
1xRun: What materials did you use to create this piece?
Fulvio Di Piazza: Oil on canvas.
1xRun: When was this piece created?
Fulvio Di Piazza: 2012.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and the execution came about?
Fulvio Di Piazza: Improvisation on a theme very dear to me: the flying ship.
1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Fulvio Di Piazza: A full day.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Fulvio Di Piazza: Because it is a very evocative image.
1xRun: Describe this piece in one gut reaction word.
Fulvio Di Piazza: Fantastic.
1xRun: When did you start making art?
Fulvio Di Piazza: In a professional way, in 1995.
1xRun: What was your first piece?
Fulvio Di Piazza: I do not remember, but the first interesting pieces I created were when I was in the third year at the Academy of Fine Arts.
1xRun: Which artists have inspired you early on?
Fulvio Di Piazza: Bosh, Bacon, and Ernst.
1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work?
Fulvio Di Piazza: I listen to lots of music, and while work is crucial. I prefer the whole rock scene, hard and heavy. L Music is my second passion in fact I play the drums in a band.
1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why?
Fulvio Di Piazza: Barry McGee. I love it, I find his work amazing.
1xRun: What was the first piece of art that you bought?
Fulvio Di Piazza: A work of a young artist from Palermo named Igor Scalisi Palminteri, yes it is still hanging in my living room.
1xRun: If you could collaborate with any deceased artist who would it be?
Fulvio Di Piazza: I would have liked to have helped Bosch to paint a Triptych of delights.
1xRun: What was the last piece of art that you bought?
Fulvio Di Piazza: Recent pieces that I have I’ve either done in exchange with other artists or they were given to me.
1xRun: Any shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Fulvio Di Piazza: I have a solo exhibition at the gallery Raffaelli in Trento in 2015 and in the same year will take part in a major exhibition on Leonardo Da Vinci that will be done at the Royal Palace of Milan.
