1xRun: When was the piece created?
Jim Houser: The original painting was made in may 2014 , the artwork for the print was made in July.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about.
Jim Houser: I wanted to make a print that looks like a skateboard but isn’t a skateboard. I’m known for doing skate graphics, and people like to hang them on the wall. and this one is designed flat , for specifically that purpose. The original painting is an 18” square, but the image lent itself to a long vertical shape, like a skateboard graphic.

1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work?
Jim Houser: Sometimes music, sometimes audiobooks, and sometimes sports talk radio. It’s never quiet.

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why?
Jim Houser: I’m not much of a collaborator, over the years I have figured out it causes me a lot of stress. I either feel like the other person is ruining it or that I am, and neither of those is great way to feel.
