1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, is the original still for sale?
Smithe: This piece was inspired by the last trip we did with the guys of Pangeaseed. I tried to incorporate all the mysticism and power of this big fish called Wale Shark. The original file is all digital. I only did a couples of rough sketches to figure out the composition.
1xRun: Was this piece part of a recent theme, series or show that you had?
Smithe: This piece was inspired by this specimen and my last trip to Isla Mujeres.
1xRUN: What materials were used to create this piece?
Smithe: I did this all in Photoshop.
1xRun: When was the piece created?
Smithe: This piece took me almost 2 days during the beginning of August 2014.
1xRun: Anything immediate you would like us to highlight?
Smithe: I like the idea of floating dots. Like the pattern in his skin. It’s like putting some magical signals on the way.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Smithe: I don’t work to much with animals on my graphics. So it was a challenge to do it in my style.
1xRun: What do you feel is unique about this piece?
Smithe: It’s different from my previous works. On my last pieces I showed more dreams or surrealistic stuff. This is more like an attempt to tell a story or moment I lived.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Smithe: The idea is to raise money to preserve the seas.
1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Smithe: Magic.
1xRun: Any shows or exhibitions you were a part of that you want to mention?
Smithe: I have one collective show at the end of this year with Fifty24mx called Minimart.
1xRun: It’s been a bit since we caught, bring us up to speed on what you’ve been up to.
Smithe: I’ve been working on some new things. My brand Tony Delfino and my Music Band – Stendal.
1xRun: Any new artists that have been inspiring you to push yourself as of late?
Smithe: Lugosis from Italy and Apolo Cacho from Mexico. Amazing works!
