1xRUN Thru Interview
Octopussy by Mimi Yoon
1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, is the original already sold?
Mimi Yoon: Octopussy was painted in 2012 for a group show, and yes, the original is sold.
1xRun: Was this piece part of a recent theme or series that you had?
Mimi Yoon: It wasn’t meant to be a part of any theme or series, but it explores the femininity, vanity, and sensuality which seem to continue in most of my work.
1xRUN: What materials did you use to create this piece?
Mimi Yoon: Acrylic on linen.
1xRun: When was the piece created?
Mimi Yoon: April 2012.
1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Mimi Yoon: This piece happened rather quickly. It took me about 2-3 days.
1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Mimi Yoon: The interpretation of what is seemingly my ongoing theme (femininity, vanity, and sensuality) is a bit more obvious in this piece.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Mimi Yoon: It’s an obviously seductive, yet elegant and classy image. The print quality is amazing too. I was wowed by the large canvas print.
1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
Mimi Yoon: Elegantlyseductive.
1xRun: Bring us up to speed on what you’ve been up to since our last release ‘My Vampirella’?
Mimi Yoon: I started a series that portrays the beauty and sensuality of Korean Kisaeng a while ago, and I hoped to take some time to finish and get them ready for prints before the end of 2014. But I recently agreed to do more comic related projects (which I cannot talk about yet), so looks like my Korean Kisaeng series will have to wait a while longer.
1xRun: Any recent, shows or commissioned work that you’ve finished recently that you’re excited on?
Mimi Yoon: I’ve recently finished the variant cover pieces for the mini series comic book, Judge Dredd: Judge Anderson, PSI-Division (1- 4) published by IDW. The first 3 issues are already in stores and the last issue will be released in November.
1xRun: As fall gets under way here, what’s on your schedule?
Mimi Yoon: Just started to work on more comic related fine art print pieces.
1xRun: Any recent strides you feel that you’ve made or obstacles you’ve over come in some your recent works?
Mimi Yoon: The recent “ridiculous” Milo Spider-Woman controversy has caused the character owner for one of my latest comic book covers to require me to repaint a section of my finished and already accepted artwork as a precautionary measure. I wasn’t happy but it’s fixed and I’m glad that it won’t end up like the Powder Puff Girl controversy in January 2014.
1xRun: Anything else that we didn’t touch on that you’d like to include?
Mimi Yoon: I’m excited to release beautiful quality postcards with 9 of my popular images – 9 postcards in a pack plus 1 extra surprise card (gift from me to you) just in time for the holidays. Coming soon to my store.
