Rime Returns With Ocean Slide

1xRUN Thru Interview
Ocean Slide by Rime

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, anything immediate you would like us to highlight?
Rime: Shit is real in the ghetto. Ocean Slide is a combination of representative elements that touch on collective lust, moral expectations, and my obsession with graffiti painting. Here, four eyed snakes are two faced persuaders that emotionally camouflage themselves to poke through as many holes as possible. Saying goodbye to summer.

1xRun: Was this piece part of a recent theme, series or show that you had? If so how did it fit into that given grouping?
Rime: This piece was made after returning from a trip to Paris in late October. It is the product of  a few all night drawing sessions in my NYC studio. The work aims to orchestrate weight, repetition and color. When I look at the work I get flashbacks of  binge watching Sopranos reruns on my laptop.

1xRUN: What materials did you use to create this piece?
Rime: The drawing was made on 140 lb.  paper with felt tip pens and markers. The piece was made without pencil. The elements were improvised and placed atop an abstract starting point. Intersecting strokes and confident squiggles got played with.

1xRun: When was the piece created?
Rime: 2014.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Rime: I find chances to be alone and make art. This happened.

Rime: About 3 long drawing sessions. I tend to come up with my best work between 2-6 am.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Rime: There is plenty to look at.

1xRun: Bring us up to speed on what you’ve been up to the last few months as fall is winding down and the year is coming to an end?
Rime: Making art outside and in. Threw some epic parties this past year. To me the best one was on a boat; some say the hotel parties were better? Been over to Paris a few times for shows, went back to LA for a show. Went on a road trip from Paris to Rome during Easter. Had a nice getaway in Palm Springs. Ate psychedelics a few times and went to some great dance parties. Rest in Peace DG; Trigz.

Rime: Shit is happening.

1xRun: You’ve always championed up and coming artists, who are some of the younger talents you have enjoying as of late?
Rime: You can’t teach passion. It seems like my teaching methods are comparable to a drill instructor at boot camp. What I assume is necessary or common practice comes off as excessive to hobbyists. We did have some great parties though!
