All Aboard by David Lyle
1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece, was it created solely for this release or was there an original piece created?
David Lyle: This piece is titled “All Aboard” and is a painting I made to be part of a new body of work titled “Everyone’s a Critic.” The original painting is still available.
1xRun: Was this piece part of a recent theme, series or show that you had? If so how did it fit into that given grouping?
David Lyle: This painting is part of my current show titled ‘Everyone’s a critic.” This series presents a caustic commentary on the art world and what mystifies the public about the art world – art that is not made by the artists’ themselves, money as an end game, art-speak, etc.
1xRUN: What materials were used to create this piece with?
David Lyle: The painting is done with only black paint on a white gessoed wood panel.
1xRun: When was the piece created?
David Lyle: This painting was done in the past few months.
1xRun: Anything immediate you would like us to highlight?
David Lyle: I would like to highlight the fact that you can see this painting along with the others in the show “Everyone’s A Critic” live at Lyons Wier Gallery in NYC at 542 west 24th street up until March 14.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
David Lyle: The idea behind this piece is basically about the acceptance and commercialization of graffiti. Where in the past, graffiti was looked at as an illegal eyesore to the public and now it is adorned and used in the main steam media, sold as fine art and used for commercial purposes.
1xRun: How long did the piece take to complete?
David Lyle: This painting took me around two to three weeks to make.
1xRun: What do you feel is unique about this piece?
David Lyle: I think what is unique about this piece and all of my work is the fact that I use only black paint to make my paintings. Along with my sociopolitical views on things going on in and around my life.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
David Lyle: I think people should buy this piece if they can connect with my satirical commentaries and also can appreciate my process of making the paintings by only using black paint.

David Lyle: Truth.
