1xRun: Tell us a little bit about this piece?
Ewok: I love graffiti, and I hate police. This is a humorous look at the tension between the two.
1xRun: Was these piece part of a recent theme, series or show that you had? If so how did it fit into that given grouping?
Ewok: The theme is part of my overall 20-something year old love affair with graffiti. It’s part of my evolving perspective on it going from being a secret hobby/identity to being a viable means of self expression and quasi-making a living.
1xRUN: What materials were used to create this piece with?
Ewok: Micron drafting pens, Sharpies and Photoshop.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Ewok: Just from my imagination I guess. I recently started putting a top-hat on my throw-up ‘E’, and then the E kind of evolved into a character. From there the character started being in all these graffiti-type scenarios, so I figured what better way to show that than having him being chased by some hideous pig/cop character.
1xRun: How long did this piece take to complete?
Ewok: The drawings I worked on over 2 or 3 days and then a lot of computer fuckery that took way too long. I don’t know, a handful of days.
1xRun: What do you feel is unique about this piece?
Ewok: I don’t know. Maybe how the characters are kind of superimposed on this sort of generic urban graffiti backdrop. I like utilizing random graffiti in these kinds of pieces. The stuff you see that isn’t really aspiring to be ‘graffiti’ graffiti, but more civilian scrawling on shit. I love seeing ‘Metallica’ and ‘2-Pac’ unironically written on walls. That kind of blue-collar pointless graffiti is pure and innocent. I always wonder what motivates someone to do all of the things necessary to go write 2-Pac on a wall.
1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Ewok: Because if they don’t buy it, then the terrorists really have won.
