1xRUN: Tell us a little bit about this piece, anything immediate you would like us to highlight?
Felipe Pantone: I always try my work to convey dynamism and strength, well I think this piece is one of the most electric and powerful.
1x: Was this piece part of a recent theme, series or show that you had? If so how did it fit into that given grouping?
Felipe Pantone: This piece is part of the series Optichromies. They’re basically a combination of optical work and powerful colors.
1x: What materials were used to create this piece?
Felipe Pantone: I designed some “sketch” on Illustrator, then I painted it on a wood panel. After, I adjusted the illustrator file in order to create the print.
1x: When was the piece originally created and how long did it take to complete?
Felipe Pantone: I did this in May of 2015 over the span of about a week.
1x: Tell us a little bit about your process and how the idea and execution came about?
Felipe Pantone: Once the design was made, I transported it to the panel using stencils, masking tape, and spray paint.
1x: What do you feel is unique about this piece compared to your other work?
Felipe Pantone: Every element has a lot of importance. Generally my work is a compound of a lot of information in an uneven way. This time the elements are well defined, and I think that separation makes them more noticeable.
1x: Describe this piece with one gut reaction word.
Felipe Pantone: Electric.
1x: What are your expectation this year for POW!WOW! Hawaii?
Felipe Pantone: It’ll be my first time, so first of all I get to know Honolulu and experience Hawaii. Then obviously meet a lot of people and enjoy the time in front of the wall. Really exciting.
1x: Without giving away too much, what are your plans for your mural out in Honolulu?
Felipe Pantone: I don’t know yet, but most probably, to try something different!
1x: Any of the participating artists from this year’s roster you are excited to see painting?
Felipe Pantone: Looking forward to seeing 1010 and talking about an exciting project that we’ll have together soon.
1x: What’s your schedule like after POW!WOW! 2016? Any big shows or events coming up that you’d like to share?
Felipe Pantone: My show at Mirus Gallery in San Francisco is open right now. Go check it!
