Matt Gordon Latest Looks Like Twubbl…

Matt Gordon is a mixed media artist working out of Northville, Michigan. He attended both the College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio and Center of Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit. He strives to make well crafted and highly detailed acrylic paintings and pencil drawings, along with the occasional 3-D fabrication thrown in there to satisfy sculptural needs and to provide live models for things that don’t really exist but need to look like they do. The paintings and drawings have been parts or scenes of an ongoing story line that he has been working on since 1998 with the ultimate goal of having them made into a big and wonderful illustrated storybook.

Wodka Macheck by Matt Gordon

1xRun: Tell us a bit about this piece, is the original still for sale? What materials was it created with?

Matt Gordon:  The original was sold before it was finished.  It resides in northern California at a surgeon’s home. The original was 36×24 inches acrylic on gesso board.

1xRun: When was this piece drawn and created?

Matt Gordon:  2006 on through my last solo show in February 2008.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?

Matt Gordon:  I was forced to be as truthful as I can be when I decided Jesus would be in the sky and that fact milked me till my teets were tweaked. This piece is the morning or next image after the painting I made “wat’s up twubbl?”  They were made in unison.

“Hello, this is the painting that takes place directly before Wokda Macheck. the night before per say. it’s called” wat’s up twubbl?” – Matt Gordon

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?

Matt Gordon: The physical photo reference I used overtook my imagination and recorded the round about real surroundings and human interaction I deal with on the everyday at those moments.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?

Matt Gordon:  I know why it resonates with me and from the feedback I’ve gotten since it was first shown others know a neighborhood or childhood place that was familiar

1xRun: Describe the piece/print in one gut reaction word.

Matt Gordon:  JESUS SKY with nature’s beauty the background witness of our everyday magic
