1xRUN Thru Interview
Guts Gust by Charlie Immer

1xRUN: Tell us about the original piece, when was it created and with what materials?
Charlie Immer: The original was painted with oils on panel and it is sold.  I drew out the image with pencil and then glazed oils over it. The piece was finished in September of 2010.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?    How long did the piece take?
Charlie Immer:  I wanted to show that there is an appropriate time for self examination. This painting being an example of a bad time.  I would say it took about 2 weeks from sketch to finish.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Charlie Immer: The sense of motion created by the guts blowing in the wind.

1xRun: Why should people buy this piece?
Charlie Immer:  Buy this piece if you enjoy silly scenes of violence.

1xRun: Describe the print in one gut reaction word.
Charlie Immer:  Boisterous.

1xRun: When did you first start making art?
Charlie Immer:  I don’t know about art making but I first started drawing in preschool. A teacher showed me how to draw a simple skeleton.

1xRun: What artists inspired you early on?
Charlie Immer: Disney’s Silly Symphonies Skeleton Dance:

1xRun: What artists inspire you now?
Charlie Immer:  I’m inspired by artists who I perceive are having a lot fun with their work.  Im always excited to see what Dave Cooper, Femke Hiemstra, and Wayne White are up to.

1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work? If so what? If not then what is your environment like when you work?
Charlie Immer:  I do listen to music while I’m working.  I like The Animal Collective,  Salem,  Castlevania 3 OST, atmospheric instrumentals, Roy Orbison, and Goblin just to name a few.  I also watch a lot of Seinfeld, Tim and Eric, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why?
Charlie Immer:  I would collaborate Dave Cooper.  I love the way he draws and the way he lights his subjects.  I know I would have fun painting naked women and skeletons undulating together.

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any deceased artists who would it be and why?
Charlie Immer:  Hieronymus Bosch. Though I would more than likely just sit and watch.  It would be amazing to see a piece go from sketch to finish.

1xRun: What was the last piece of art that you bought?
Charlie Immer:  I traded with Travis Lampe, another one of my favorite artists.  The painting is of a sweaty sad unicorn wrestling a lumberjack.

1xRun: What else do you have in the works?
Charlie Immer:   I have a piece in the Santa La Muerte show at the Sacred Machine which opens on Sept 7th.  I will also be a part of the Bewitching 2 show at the Stranger Factory in October.

1xRun:  Where else can people find you?
Charlie Immer:  WebsiteFacebookFacebook FanPageTwitter
