1xRUN Thru Interview
Live. Work. Consume. Die by D3N!@L
1xRUN: Tell us a little bit about the original piece, when was it done?
D3N!@L: The original is a series of 10 I did 24″ x 24″ that I created in 2010.
1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
D3N!@L: I have a fascination with television test patterns, there is something kind of apocalyptic about them. Like if you were ever seeing one than something terrible was happening. I also put some messaging in this piece which relates to what I believe is the true messaging in most television ads. Live, work, consume, die is really what TV is telling you to do, be it subliminally or not.
1xRun: How long did the piece take?
D3N!@L: This series of 55 took about a week and a half. The “Super Box” took on and off about a month of my free time to design and produce.
1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
D3N!@L: This series of 55 is each individually coloured, every piece is unique in that sense.
1xRun: Why should people buy this piece ?
D3N!@L: This is a fun peek into my mind as the “Super Box” has a lot of unique designs and creations, it’s a little different than just a piece of art.
1xRun: Describe the piece in one gut reaction word.
D3N!@L: Sweet.1xRun: When did you first start making art? What was your first piece?
D3N!@L: I was pretty young when I started drawing maybe 6, Painting graffiti about 15 years ago and I really started making art work about 10 years ago. I can’t really remember my first piece, but I do remember drawing logos for made up skateboard companies and tonnes of war scenes as a kid.
1xRun: What artists inspired you early on?
D3N!@L: Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basqiat, Lychenstein, Mark Gator. Anything graphic driven I really took inspiration from. It really blew me away at a young age that there were other people in the world who considered graphic and text rich work, art.
1xRun: What artists inspire you now?
D3N!@L: Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basqiat, Lychenstein, Mark Gator, Shepard Fairey.
1xRun:
1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work? If so what? If not then what is your environment like when you work?
- D3N!@L: Real punk rock. The Clash, the Misfits, Gorilla Biscuits, Sick of It All. Anything to get you going.
1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artist who would it be and why?
D3N!@L: I would love to collaborate with Shepard Fairey on a project.
1xRun: If you could collaborate with any deceased artists who would it be and why?
D3N!@L: Probably Basqiat, he seems like a really interested and distressed artist who really explored his craft. I think it would be amazing to see what he could have done if he didn’t die so young.
1xRun: What was the last piece of art that you bought?
D3N!@L: A piece from Jason Deary.
1xRun: Where can people find you across the internette?
D3N!@L: Website – Facebook – Twitter
