Ana Bagayan Returns To 1x With Undersea Moon

“My work is inspired by the metaphysical- ghosts, spirits, intergalactic space creatures, anything that hints at the idea that we are just a small part of the unimaginably vast universe. Some of the works are based on hypnosis sessions of people who believed they had been abducted by aliens. I’ve created human/alien hybrid creatures based on the experiences these people described. All of the works, I feel incorporate the inherent beauty of interpreting both the known and unknown.” – Ana Bagayan

Here for her second RUN, artist Ana Bagayan has brought us Undersea Moon. Read on below as Ana gives us the skinny on her latest piece, past influences and much more in the 1xRUN Thru Interview below…

1xRUN Thru Interview
Undersea Moon by Ana Bagayan

1xRun:Tell us a little bit about the original piece? What materials was it created with? Is it already sold?
Ana Bagayan: The original was painted for a show a few months ago with oils on a wood panel. Yes, it is sold.

1xRun: Can you tell us a bit about how the idea and execution came about?
Ana Bagayan: The painting was inspired by my love for undersea creatures, my interest in the ancient city of Atlantis, and my obsession with space. I love combining elements from earth with space to create fictional alien planets from alternate realities to show that anything is possible and everything is connected.

1xRun: How long did the piece take?
Ana Bagayan:  Paintings of that size usually take me one to two weeks. Although there was a lot of detailing, I went through it very quickly because it was fun. The painting part is the easiest, as most of my energy goes into sketching out ideas until I’m happy with the piece. While I love the painting process, the most exciting part is coming up with ideas.

1xRun: What is unique about this piece? Why should people buy this piece?
Ana Bagayan: There’s a moon under the sea? People should buy this because it makes them happy.

1xRun: Describe the print in one gut reaction word.
Ana Bagayan: Poot. (That’s the shark’s name.)

1xRun: When did you first start making art?
Ana Bagayan: I’ve been interested in art since I was a child. I believe everyone is born an artist with a passion. Life is a journey of discovering where that passion lies.

1xRun: What artists inspired you early on?
Ana Bagayan: As a kid, I loved classical art. Leonardo DaVinci, Jan Van Eyck, Hans Memling & Ingres

1xRun: What artists inspire you now?
Ana Bagayan:I am always looking out for alien-themed imagery, particularly ones created by people who have had contact with aliens and E.T.s. I have a collection of them posted on my website for anyone else who’s interested in the subject. Other art that I’m currently into:  Z. Beksinski, Alfred Kubin and Frans von Bayros.

1xRun: Do you listen to music while you work? If so what? If not then what is your environment like when you work?
Ana Bagayan: Classical music and The Knife/Fever Ray are my current favorites to work to. I also came across some meditative music that I love that is created by equipment that captures electromagnetic changes on the surface of leaves and roots of plants and transforms them into harmonious sounds. There’s info on it here: http://www.damanhur.org/philosophy-a-research/research/1429-the-music-of-the-plants

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any living artists who would it be and why?
Ana Bagayan: I don’t know, I’m not that interested in collaborating right now! I could use a clone though.

1xRun: If you could collaborate with any deceased artists who would it be?
Ana Bagayan: The ancient Egyptians.

1xRun: What was the last piece of art that you bought?
Ana Bagayan: I just bought a drawing from Yosuke Ueno.

1xRun: What else do you have in the works?
Ana Bagayan: I’ve just started planning and sketching out ideas for my next show, which is in 2014 at Thinkspace Gallery. I will be doing group shows throughout the year so the best way to keep updated is to check my website and facebook.

1xRun: Where can people find you on the internette?
