Joey Remmers Returns With The Key

1xRun Thru Interview
The Key by Joey Remmers

1xRun: Tell us a little bit about the original piece. When was the piece drawn and created?  How long did the piece take?
Joey Remmers:  The piece was originally created for Nathan Spoor’s NYC Suggestivism show at Bold Hype, where it was sold. It was created with plain ‘ol Oil on Canvas in 2011. The bulk of it was probably done at some ungodly hour. One day I’ll have to actually try and time a piece. But, for now I only have a vague sense of how long a piece takes. When I paint the last thing I do is look at a clock.

1xRun: Tell us how the idea and execution came about?
Joey Remmers:  I almost always work the same way. I keep a scrap book of ideas that I want to work through, from there I’ll do sketches until I’m happy with a layout. Before painting Ill usually do a study in photoshop to help work through any ideas. Then on to the painting…

1xRun: What is unique about this piece?
Joey Remmers:  Unique for my work or unique in general? I don’t think much is unique these days, it seems like everything is some kind of version of something else, or at least it is perceived that way. The internet is amazing, but at the same time pretty horrible. But, this isn’t the place for a rant….Um, it’s unique for my work because it has an owl in it ;) Although, I plan on painting them more in the future.

1xRun: Why should people buy this print?
Joey Remmers:  Because it holds a story for them.

1xRun: Describe this print in one gut reaction word.
Joey Remmers:  Mysterious

1xRun: What else have you been up to lately?
Joey Remmers: I stay pretty busy. I’m back in school which I’m thrilled about, been tattooing a bit and have some cool plans in the future with that, and, finally getting ready to start a full studio remodel (very exciting). Painting, drawing, and of course, hanging with the family are always in there too.
